ORION

‘FLYING’ ON HORSEBACK WAS TRULY AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE, ONE THAT HE WOULD NEVER FORGET, NOR GET USED TO. RAIZO FELT PITY FOR THE PEOPLE FROM BACK HOME WHO COULD NEVER EXPERIENCE WHAT HE WAS RIGHT NOW, OR SEE THE BEAUTIFUL SIGHTS THAT HE WAS WITNESSING FROM CLOUD 9, LITERALLY.IT WAS LIKE DRIVING A CAR AT TOP GEAR WITH THE TOP OFF, ONLY WITH TEN TIMES THE ADRENALINE AND THE RUSH.

HE WAS GLAD THE SKY WAS CLEAR, FOR HE COULDN’T IMAGINE RIDING ORION IN A TOO COLD OR RAINY WEATHER, FOR IT WOULD TURN HIM TO ICE IN MINUTES SITTING ON HIS  BACK.THE PEGASUS’ SPEED KEPT HIM ON HIS NERVES AT FIRST, BUT THEN HE CALMED DOWN AS HE SLOWLY GOT USED TO IT,  AND ONLY THEN DID HE TRULY SEE THE BEAUTY OF THIS NEW WORLD THAT HE WAS IN, THE COUNTLESS STARS TWINKLING IN THE SKY WERE A SIGHT THAT HE WAS SURE HE COULD NEVER SEE FROM ANY PART OF THE EARTH. THE MOUNTAINS WERE RUNNING BY BELOW THEM, THE DARKNESS OF THE VALLEY BETWEEN THEM EXHIBITTING A FOREBODING PICTURE, DISCOURAGING ANY FLEETING THOUGHTS OF EXPLORING THEIR DEPTHS  THAT MIGHT’VE STRUCK HIS MIND OTHERWISE.

AFTER A COUPLE OF HOURS, THE COLD AIR BECOME TOO MUCH FOR HIM, SO HE BENT DOWN TOWARDS ORION’S NECK, AND SOON ENOUGH, FELL ASLEEP TO THE SOUND OF THE UNIFORM BEATING OF HIS WINGS.

“EVANGELINE?”, HE SAID, NOT QUITE TAKING EVERYTHING IN CLEARLY.

SHE WAS SITTING ALONE ON THE COUCH, HER HAIR UNTAMED AND FALLING CARELESSLY OVER HER SHOULDERS AND HER BENT HEAD, VEILING HER BEAUTIFUL FACE FROM HIS EAGER EYES. THE SUN HAD SET AND IT WAS DARK ALL AROUND AS SHE HADN’T BOTHERED TO TURN ON THE LIGHTS, HE WONDERED WHY.

STANDING NEAR THE DOOR, HE CALLED OUT TO HER AGAIN, AND SHE LOOKED UP. THERE WAS DISBELIEVE IN HER ALREADY MOIST EYES, HER MIND DOUBTING HER SENSES.

SHE STOOD UP SLOWLY, AND HE REALIZED SHE WAS HOLDING SOMETHING IN HER HAND, SO HE LOOKED CLOSER---IT WAS A GUN.

“RAIZO?”, SHE SAID STAMMERING SLIGHTLY, “IS IT...IT’S REALLY YOU?”

“YEAH....YEAH IT’S ME,” HE REPLIED, STILL TRYING TO FIGURE WHETHER THIS WAS A SOLID REALITY,

“IS THIS A DREAM?”, HE ASKED,

SHE MOVED CLOSER TO HIM, CAUTIOUS OF THE GUN HELD IN HER HAND, AND WAS ABOUT TO SAY SOMETHING AGAIN WHEN A LOUD KNOCK SOUNDED ON THE DOOR.

SHE HELD UP HER GUN INSTANTLY, POINTING IT TOWARDS THE DOORWAY,

“GET BACK FROM THERE BABY,” SHE SAID, NOW SHIVERING AND TRYING TO KEEP THE GUN STEADY, TEARS CREEPING DOWN HER EYES SLOWLY, HER VOICE QUAVERING.

“EVA WHAT’S THE MATTER, WHO IS IT?” RAIZO ASKED, HOLDING UP HIS HANDS TO TRY TO CALM HER DOWN, BUT GROUNDED ON HIS SPOT, SURPRISED AT THE SUDDEN TURN OF EVENTS, LOOKING  AT THE DOOR AND THEN AT HIS LOVE.

THE DOOR SOUNDED AGAIN, WHOEVER WAS OUTSIDE WAS NOT IN A MOOD TO WAIT,

“GIVE ME THE GUN, EVA, IT’S NOT SAFE, HAND IT OVER”, HE SAID, BUT SHE WASN’T IN THE MOOD TO OBLIGE,

“NO! JUST GET BACK FROM THE DOOR RAIZO!”, SHE SAID,TURNING OFF THE SAFETY OF THE FIREARM, ANXIETY ALREADY CLOUDING HER VOICE.

THE PERSON ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE DOOR KNOCKED AGAIN, RATHER HARSHLY THIS TIME, AND A MAN’S VOICE SAID ALOUD,

“THIS IS THE FBI! OPEN THE DOOR MISS.THOMAS! WE KNOW YOU’RE IN THERE!OPEN IT OR WE’RE GONNA HAVE TO BREAK IN!”

“EVA IT’S JUST THE COPS! PUT DOWN THE GUN DAMN IT! WHAT’S THE MATTER WITH YOU?” HE SAID NOW GETTING CLOSER TO HER, IN A BID TO SNATCH THE GUN FROM HER HAND WHILE ENGAGING HER IN TALK.
