Kaia

I came home nervous but excited.

I can't believe Louis asked me to go to California with him!

I know this means a lot to him. I want to be there with him.

When I opened the door, Lia was on the couch, with her laptop on her knee, her textbooks sprawled across the coffee table and rubbing her forehead — like you would do when you have a headache.

"You alright, Li?" I ask, dropping my purse onto the dining table.

"Yeah, I'm alright," my best friend says in a painful tone. "I've been studying for hours and I feel as though my head is going to burst with all this information, but yeah, I'm alright."

"Lia, you need a break from that," I tell her. "Tell me about your day, apart from studying."

"Okay, um, I'm still sick as a dog, to begin," she starts. "Harry came over for a bit to keep me company, he got me this really cute necklace," she stops to show me the necklace around her neck. "see it has his signature on one side and mine on the other. Then Jeremiah showed up and tried to kill Harry, which was... Interesting..."

"Wait," I stop her, confusion showing on my face. "What's the deal with Jeremiah? He's going all crazy ex-boyfriend, now."

"Yeah," she nods. "I don't know what's up with him. Hopefully it'll pass. He's scaring me."

"What did he do to Harry?" I ask.

"They had a fist fight," Lia says. "It went back and forth between them before Harry kicked Jeremiah in the nuts and he passed out."

My eyes whip around to meet hers.

"What?" I ask, in disbelief."

"Yeah," she nods again. "It was kinda funny to watch."

I can't help let out a laugh.

"But anyway," Lia says. "How was your day out with Lou?"

"It was good," I say, casually. "We helped each other shop for a bit. We got papped later and we had to run into a family toilet. Oh, and need to tell you something really important."

"I'm all ears," she says, paying close attention.

"Louis asked me if I wanted to come to California with him to meet Freddie."

By her immediate reaction I couldn't tell if she was shocked, nervous or excited. Maybe a bit of all of them.

But then, when she spoke I could get a better feel for how she felt.

"That's awesome!" She exclaims. "Are you excited?"

"Of course!" I say. "But I'm a little nervous. I mean, it's his son!"

"Yeah, but it's still awesome," she exclaims. "Louis must really like you."

I blush a little bit. I can't help it.

"When do you leave?" Lia asks, excitedly.

"Next week," I reply.

"Woah, that's so close."

"Yeah."

"Wait. California. That's in another country. Do you have a passport?"

I scrunch my eyebrows.

"I'm not sure," I reply. "I'll have to call mum and ask her if she has one home. I'm pretty sure she would because I've been out of the country before."

"You'd better call her before next week," Lia says.

"I'll go call her now."

I leave Lia to finish her studying and I go into my bedroom to call mum.
