The months went by and before Anne knew it, it was Christmas. She had indeed been kicked out of the Kirren home after announcing her pregnancy. Her mother was disappointed and ashamed. Her father was furious. He had been very angry. "I shall kill that son of a-" he threatened. He had wanted his youngest daughter to give the baby up for adoption but Anne being Anne, she refused. "Father. It's my child. Your own grandchild!" and with that, she went upstairs to pack only the essentials to move in with Peggy and Jimmy.

Anne was helping Peggy decorate the tree as Jimmy walked through the door. He was shaking off the snow as he pulled off his coat. He walked into the lounge to see a beautifully made tree and two beaming young women. He looked at Anne and smirked. He put a mocking thinking face on and said, "I believe there is something for you but I cannot put my finger on it." Anne gasped and smiled. She darted a hand behind his back but he moved the unknown document to his other hand. Anne laughed and grabbed the document. It was a letter from Rafe. The eighth one since he left. Walking away from Jimmy, she took the letter and sat down with a sigh. Anne had started to show and her little baby was already squirming about inside her. Tearing open the letter she skim read it first then she started to read it properly. It read:

'My darling Anne and our little duck,

Merry Christmas. It's freezing here. Not much has happened since I last wrote but to tell the boys in my trench that I'm to be a pop is truly great. One chap, Robin, broke his leg last week after falling during a training exercise. Going on to fly over Berlin next week or so.

I love you Anne. Send my hugs to Jim and Peggy. Keep a whiskey for me, perhaps? I hope I get leave soon.

Your soldier, Rafe.'

Anne smiled as she read it. Despite their distances, Rafe always knew how to keep her happy and entertained. Jimmy walked into the room as she stood. Nodding towards him, she knew everything would be alright. "He hopes to have leave soon." Anne said as she placed a hand over her bump. Jimmy smiled and together with Anne, they walked into the lounge to find Peggy hanging up two porcelain turtle doves onto the tree. Anne exhaled warmly and walked towards the desk, and with that, got set to replying to Rafe.

My darling soldier ...
