"Please set the table dear!" I hear my mother yell from the kitchen.

We don't do much as a family, but when we do, it is a big deal. Tonight we are having Steven's family over to catch up. We try to do it at least once every couple months but as my mother says, "Life gets in the way."

I'm wearing a pretty casual outfit, which is the one thing that I am thankful for. They don't make us dress up all fancy. I honestly feel like it would be pointless, because we've known each other our whole lives. We've seen each other at our best and our worst.

The aroma of the food my mom was cooking was almost orgasmic.

Sorry, that was inappropriate but hey, some of us have to have a perverted mind.

I pulled the nice china out of the cabinet and set them nicely over the table cloth. My parent don't make me do many chores because they know that any time they need help on something, I'll jump at it.

The doorbell rings and I can't help but hold back a laugh. Steven never rings the doorbell, he just lets himself in. He literally has a key.

My parents rush to the door and I hear their excited cheers as my second family comes inside. It takes them a minute to get to the kitchen door because of the hugging and the whole having to take off their shoes thing.

I quickly run over to the stove after I've finished setting the table and stirred the chicken. My mom's favorite recipes to make is lemon pepper chicken, but honestly I think it's just because she likes the color scheme. Got to love having a photographer as a mother.

Steven and his sister walk in first. His sister, Camila, doesn't come around much. She is going to school to be a RN on the other side of the state. She is apparently doing really well in school though and she is helpful when I don't want to go to the doctor.

Next is my parents with Steven's close on their tail. They were talking up a storm about how much they had missed each other. They usually calm down within the hour.

"Food!" my mother yelled from inside the kitchen doors. She never brings the food to us because she believes in serving yourself. I'm not going to be complain by any means. That just means I can get more chicken than she would normally give me.

I get my food, filling my plate to the max, and moving to sit in my normal place at the table in between Steven and Camila.

Laughter and conversation filled the room. All of us were in our own conversations. I was talking to Camila about schooling and Steven was texting on his phone.

"I'm still thinking about it but I'd really like to be a CNA or a RN. What do you think is better?" I ask her curiously.

"Well, you can become a certified CNA in high school but there is more you can do as an RN," she explains before putting another fork full of chicken in her mouth.

I feel someone elbow me in the ribs and I look over at Steven. Just then, the doorbell rings as well. We all become quiet, confused because everyone is here.

"I'm so sorry," Steven quickly tells me before running off to answer the door. I sat in silence, confused about why he was saying sorry.

Then I understood. His face, the one I used to admire. The one I said I love you to. The one who told me that he would never leave me.

All the promised run around my mind and follow down my throat, trying to suffocate me. The air in the room starts feel think and I can't see straight. Maybe it isn't him, maybe I'm just hallucinating.

I squeeze my eyes shut and open them again, but he is still there. My eyes started to burn and I had never wished that I could just disappear so badly.

Our eyes met and he sent me a sad smile as if saying 'I'm sorry but I'm here now'. I wish he would see that it doesn't change anything. He wasn't there when I needed him the most. He is that cause of me. The reason that I am the way I am right now.

My eyes meet the floor and I slowly push my chair backwards, standing up.

"Where are you going sweetheart?" Stevens's mother asks me. I look at her and send me a sad smile.

"I'm not feeling well. I think I'm going to go lay down for a while. Drake can have my chair," I say quietly before turning and walking towards the stairs.

I feel a hand on my shoulder and I turn around to see him green eyes. I want to break down right then and there. Those are the eyes that used to make me feel special. The ones that made me realize that everything was going to be okay.

"I'm sorry Riley," he whispers in my ear before placing a small kiss under my ear. I let out a shaky breath, realizing that he still remembers where my weakest point is.

I look at Steven and he stares back at me with shock. I shook my head and walked up to my room.

I've never been this shocked or embarrass in my life. I never thought I would see him outside school again.

Not only that, but I know that Steven invited him.
