I rang the doorbell to Mia's house. Link stood next to me, carrying his bag and a plate of cookies. Mia had told me to bring him to sleep over with us.
"Are you excited?" I asked
"Why would I be?"
"This is the first time you're having a sleepover at someone else's house."
"Yeah. I guess so."
The door opened. Mia stood in the doorway. "Guess what!"
"What?" I asked
"I got a karaoke machine!" She raised her hands up in the air. "Mist and Lynn are using it now!"
"Sweet." I said as she let us in. We walked into the living room and put our stuff down. Mist and Lynn were singing Beat Drop.
"Let it in your body
And the party won't stop
Seven kinds of naughty
When you let the beat drop
I've said it five times
Said why don't you understand?
Tell the DJ drop the beat
Don't play some motherfuckin' band!"
"That song is just....." I faded out just as Mist and Lynn ended the song. Ninian clapped.
"Okay, so, it works like this." Mia explained. Going to the menu page. "You put the names in. It shuffles the names picking two random ones and then it picks the song. Also randomly."
"What if it picks a song that we don't know?" Link asked.
"The lyrics show up on the screen and you sing along." Mia explained. She pressed a button and it began shuffling names.
"Oh! This'll be interesting!"
I groaned at the names that appeared on the screen. Player 1: Zelda. Player 2: Link.
The song: The Scientist by Coldplay.
I picked up the red mic and handed the blue one to Link.
"Ready?" Mia asked.
"Ooh! I love this song!!" Ninian squealed.
"1. 2. 3. Go!" Mia pressed play.
"Come up to meet you, tell you I'm sorry
You don't know how lovely you are
I had to find you, tell you I need you
Tell you I'll set you apart...." I sang quietly.
Link did his part perfectly. "Tell me your secrets and ask me your questions
Oh let's go back to the start
Running in circles, coming in tails
Heads on a science apart."
Together we sang: "Nobody said it was easy
It's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be this hard
Oh, take me back to the start."
We sang perfectly. By the end of the song we were staring at each other. Only a few inches away. Our noses were practically touching.
"That's the end." Mia said quietly.
I blushed and put the microphone down. "Right." My face felt really hot.
All of a sudden, I heard the front door slam. We looked up.
"That's weird." Lynn said. "Mist just ran out."
"Oh, shit...." I dashed out after Mist. She was standing on the front porch, her hands gripping the rail.
"Mist?" I whispered.
She whirled around. "What the hell was that, Zelda?! You promised! You said you didn't like him!!"
"Then what the hell was that display?!"
"I don't know! We were getting way too into it, I guess!"
"I already have trouble enough as it is, with boys! I thought you were on my side!"
"I am! You're being ridiculous!"
"Oh am I? I'm going home." She pushed past me and back into the house. I turned and saw Link staring sadly at me from the doorway.

"So, yeah. She's still really pissed at you." Ninian said over the phone.
I put down the bowl of popcorn. I was sitting by myself in my room, talking on my cell phone. "She's being ridiculous!"
"I know, I know. But still, maybe you should apologize anyway."
"No, I'm not doing that. She should apologize to me."
Ninian was silent for a moment. "How's Link?"
"What? He's fine. Probably downstairs."
"Maybe you should set up him and Mist on a date or something."
"I don't know. I'll think about it. I've got to go. I have a ton of homework."
I hung up.
I walked into the basement. I was wearing pajamas. I had a bowl of M&Ms.
Link was shining his shield. The blue light, Navi, was floating next to him, saying something about a forest temple.
"Hey. Knock knock." I startled him. He jumped and Navi dived down behind him.
"Just me." I sat down next to him. Pillows were all over the ground. I put down the bowl of candy.
"So." He said. "What can I do for you?"
"It's about Mist."
"Ah. I see. I'll leave tomorrow."
"What?! No!" I threw a M&M at him. "I wanted to see if you'd be willing to set up a blind date with her?"
"Because I'm in love with someone else remember?"
I shifted uncomfortably. "Right. I don't know what to do now."
"Let it all work out. It'll get better in the end. I promise."
"Right." I muttered. I grabbed the remote and clicked on the TV. I couldn't stop thinking about what I should do.
Soon I fell asleep. My head on Link's knee.
