I made it out of the movie alive.

With a look around, though, I noticed that maybe I was one of the few lucky people who had. Which really wasn't a surprise, since it was supposed to be one of the scariest movies of the year. And I had survived!

Granted, that was mostly because of Kyler, but I couldn't give him all the credit. I think I might have actually fallen asleep when I was leaned against him, in that safe enclosure he had offered me with his, well, body. He was warm and his voice was soft and it was only natural considering it was dark and I was comfortable.

There was just one small thing I was concerned about, and that was if he had realized how loud my heart was beating. It had been beating fast because of the movie, sure, that had definitely brought my adrenaline up. But when he touched me and I realized how close we were? God, it must have absolutely skyrocketed.

If he noticed, thankfully he didn't say anything. He glanced over at me a couple times, though, which was more than he'd done in the past two weeks, when we all gathered around outside the theater. Liam was sneaking up on Adalia as she tried to warm her hands up, and Paige had flocked to Kyler like a nagging bird (I hate birds), but to my strange satisfaction, he couldn't be bothered to give her the time of day.

I caught his eye again. That was the fifth time so far. And I swear it wasn't just me staring at him as if I had nothing better else to do, because I wasn't that bored, but you know how you can just feel when someone is looking at you?

I felt that with him.

He usually looked away, but this time he didn't. Our gaze held firmly, and for a second it made me want to shy away and hide from his calculating eyes, but I couldn't. Because if I quit now, I didn't know when I'd be able to look into his stormy eyes again.

Kyler rose an eyebrow at me, and I gave him a confused glance in response. A slight grin crept on his lips, but he wiped it clean off before he looked back at the sky, and I almost called his name before someone called mine instead.

"Brynn!" Sterling said from behind me, and Kyler's gaze followed as we turned in his direction.

"Sterling," I replied back with a gentle smile. When he was standing next to me, I continued, "How did you like the movie?"

He rocked back on his heels, the illuminating light from the movie posters reflecting on his face before he answered. "I liked it. I would have liked it better if I was sitting next to you, though." His eyes averted to the sky as a blush crept onto his cheeks, but then he focused back on me. "Because I've been wanting to do something for a while now."

My expression turned quizzical, and without realizing it, I scrunched my eyebrows together and directed my look at Kyler. It wasn't like he could give me any reassurance like 'this is what Sterling, my best friend, is talking about'. But as it turned out, Sterling was going to show me himself.

And he did.

By pressing his lips onto mine.

My eyes were widened in alarm. When I'd pictured my first kiss a thousand times before, yes, the scene had involved Sterling, but no, it had not involved the sudden feeling of repulsion in my stomach. Nor did the scene ever involve Kyler, because I hadn't met him yet, but now that he was here, it was like there was something wrong about kissing Sterling. And I knew it was him who'd done it, but was it alright for me to just stand there doing nothing?

His face was close, too close, when I pulled away suddenly, my mouth hanging open like a fish.

The rest of the group was staring at us with expressions that showed not only complete shock, but also complete fear. It was the kind of face you made when you knew you were about to watch something really bad happen.
