The Assistant 15 - Finally

Aaron's POV

Everything was great. Everything was in place. In order. The past few months were a whirlwind of emotions. Sure, we had our fights but that just lead to great angry sex. I can't believe it took us so long to arrive at this point. I took in a deep breath.

"Sir, you're other party is here," the waiter with an English accent reported to me.

I nodded in thanks as Natalie walked over. She looked stunning. Her long titian curls hung below her collar bone. Her pale pallor seemed to illuminate in the subdued amber lighting of the fancy restaurant. Natalie's peach V-neck flowy dress complimented her hazel eyes. She kept walking, her silver clutch held in her dainty hands and matching silver shoes not making a sound on the dark carpet.

"Hey," she greeted, sitting down on the cream plush wooden chair.

"Hey, yourself," I smiled.

"So, Rick's wedding was a blast, huh?" She asked, her smile putting dimples in her cherubic flushed pink cheeks.

"Yeah. I've never been to a snow wedding before," I commented.

We were still in Greenwich, England, where Rick and his new wife Jane had decided to live in. It was a cold wintery night in England. Their wedding was beautiful. White snow, white cake, white wedding arch, white suits for the men and of course the figure hugging, smooth, strapless white dress the bride wore. Despite the cold Jane insisted on walking down the icy aisle without a coat, same went for the bridesmaids.

Natalie gave a satisfied sigh. "Who knew that my ex would end up married 6 months after we broke up?" She laughed.

I searched her face for a hint of sadness. Her eyes glistened in the lighting.

"Don't worry, I was just joking," she reassured me, covering my hand with hers.

That was another thing I loved about her, although it was annoying, she knew what I was thinking and how I felt most of the time.

"So, how's Hayley?" She asked after reading out from the menu to the waiter.

"I don't know, I don't think she likes talking to me anymore," I laughed. Natalie joined me, her tinkling laugh like music in my ears.

She put her smooth, curved chin in her palm. "So, what's the special occasion?" She asked.

She caught me.

"Nothing. There's nothing going on. Why not enjoy this place before we go back, right?" I asked, avoiding the question.

"Oh, come on, Aaron. There must be SOMETHING you wanted to talk about. I mean, why would you want to interrupt my late hens' night with the girls?" She asked.

Because Hens' nights have strippers. In oil and eugh.

"Well, because," I answered like a primary school kid.

"Really? In that case, if there's nothing important here, I should probably go back to the girls," she teased, knowing I'd spit it out sooner or later.

"OK, OK, fine. I'll tell you," I said reluctantly.

I took a deep breath in. Just do it quickly. Like a band aid. I stood up, Nat's eyes following me. I reached in my jacket pocket and took out a a grey velvet box. I'd been saving up the day after we had great office sex, and that wasn't the last time even if she quit. Natalie's eyes widened in surprise. I kneeled down, noticing other customer's eyes on me. I gulped audibly, feeling sweat trickle down the temple of my head. I opened the box slowly.

"Natalie, it's been over a year since I first met you. A year since I fell in love with you. Six months since we started going out. Natalie, I love you, so will you marry me?" I asked. I tried to do it slowly and confidently.

Natalie smiled and crossed her arms. I smiled up at her hopefully. She better answer quick because my knees are starting to hurt and almost everyone is looking at me now.

"Yes," she smiled. "I will. On one condition," she said, putting up her manicured index finger.

"What is it?" I asked.

"No sex until the honeymoon," she smiled slyly.

I felt my face fall. That is so unfair. "Fine."

"OK. So do I take the ring or something?" She asked.

"OH, right, yeah. Here," I replied. Taking the silver diamond ring out of it foamy case and slipping it onto her ring finger.

I stood up slowly. Nat jumped up from her seat and wrapped her arms around my neck, kissing me passionately. She parted from me almost immediately.

"That's as far as you'll ever get, till the honeymoon, Aaron," she whispered, trailing her long finger on my cheek.

I groaned inwardly. This is going to be a long . . . time until we get there.

We were back at our hotel room. Sprawled on the queen sized bed. The lights dimmed down. Natalie looked up at the plain ceiling, her hands on her tummy. She turned her head to face me.

"So . . . what do we do now?" She asked.

"I don't know. Sex?" I offered.

"Nice try, Aaron," she laughed. "I love you," she smiled.

"I love you, too," I replied, moving above her. Trying really hard to hold myself back.

I slipped my tongue in and she pushed me up a little. I looked at her curiously.

"We can go fuck the no-sex rule," she breathed out.

I nodded slowly. She leaned into me, kissing me harder.
