"There you are. Why in the Crushing Depths are sleeping in the engine room?"

Baby Doll woke up slowly to Megan's voice. It was very similar to Kita's, but was more intellectual and lacked the young angel's passion. "I, uh..."

"Judging from the blood on the back your head I don't think it was on purpose."

Baby Doll rubbed her hand and felt the blood in her hair and down her neck. "I..."

"Don't worry, you're not the first to bash her head in after dealing with Kita," Megan's cackle caused Baby Doll to wince.

"It wasn't over her," Baby Doll admitted quietly.

"Sure it was. Your meteoric rise and fall in Kita's favor isn't exactly a surprise. Kita plays favorites. Jane over Snowy, Roo over both, Snowy over Roo, you over Snowy, and now Roo is back in favor over you. I'm sure Snowy will be back on top once she's healed. Your turn will come again, just do what you're supposed to. Now, come on, I need this shuttle."

"Where are you going?"

"Starting Kita's grand vision. The attack on the islands has kicked everything into high gear."

"What is that exactly?"

"Ask her. I'm just doing what I'm told."

"Come on," Megan took Baby Doll's hand and helped her out of the small compartment. "The guards have instructions for you left by Kita for when you eventually came around."

"What's she want me to do?"

"No idea. I'm sure she has something. Only a handful of angels are up and able to do anything."

"Was it that bad? I don't remember much."

"If I'm out swinging a sword, we're on the lip of the Crushing Depths. I think only six or seven angels are not in the wards."

Baby Doll winced again.

"It was that bad. So, come on get out of here. The sooner you start doing something, the sooner Kita won't look at you like you're a toad."

Baby Doll nodded and exited the shuttle. At the bay door, she found the guard.

"The Vicereine says you're to report to your new room and wait for further instructions," he informed her of her room location with a nasty grin.

Baby Doll looked at the man. He wore black fatigues. His uniform displayed his name and rank, along with the word "Commando" on his shoulder. For a moment, she was angry that any human would try to take delight in her misfortune. Seeing a patch of a black feather on his other shoulder, she decided it would be best to give him a pass. Whoever this soldier was, it wasn't part of the regular army. That she was sure. Even more embarrassing she now had to ask him directions to the penthouse. Feeling very small she started the long walk to her new room.

Baby Doll sat on a bucket in her new room, the janitor's closet. She wondered if this was a test. Someone had installed a small TV, but nothing else. It had been a very long time since she'd watched TV. Judging from the logs and volume of titles it was a favorite activity of all the angels.

She watched a few episodes of her old favorite shows and some old sporting events. It didn't take long for her to get bored. TV had never been one of her favorite things. She needed to do something, but the room was barely big enough to lie down.

She grunted. If she stayed in her much longer, she was going to go crazy. Kita may be mad at her and she wanted nothing more than to fix their rift, but staying in here wasn't going to fix anything.
