I woke up next morning feeling well rested, I don't think I've slept like that in the prison before. The bed was barely a bed and it was always hard and cold.
I love my bed.
My mom walked inside as I yawned, "Good morning, Mino." She greeted.
"Morning..." I uttered.
She handed me some coffee.
"Drink up. Your breakfast is served downstairs, hurry before it gets cold." She assured.
I looked at her, "Mom you don't have to give me special treatment. I can fix myself up something-"
"Mino you're my baby. I love you. I haven't mothered you since you were 18. Let me be me. Ok?" She told me.
I chuckled, "Sure mom.."
She tapped my head, "Good. Now get up, we have a long day."
Long day?
"I didn't plan anything." I said.
"I know but I did!" She said.
Sigh.
There was a portrait at the side of my bed on my drawer. I hadn't noticed it.
It's a picture of Holly and I in our middle school graduation.
We were both so young.
Both so innocent.
Who would've thought this is how we'd end up? One long gone and one suffering.
My fingers traced Holly's face.
Why was she always so beautiful? I swear she was a fallen angel.
"Mino!" My mom called.
I put the portrait back, "I'm coming.."
Having a homemade breakfast cooked just for me is a blessing. It sure hit the spot too.
I ate like an animal.
My mom was startled at how anxiously I ate, I nearly ate all of it.
"Wow.." she said, "You sure are hungry. Would you like some more?" She asked.
I wiped my mouth, "No that's all right mother. This was good, too good. Thank you."
She smiled at me, "You're welcome, son."
"Where's dad?" I asked.
"Working. Today you and I are going to go buy some paint."
"Paint?" I retaliated.
"Yes. I figured we'd paint the dinning room a different color. Just to lighten up this house a bit." She said.
"Yeah sure. I'm up for it. Maybe I'll buy some paint for my room. White makes it look dull." I told her.
She laughed, "Well then we'll get you paint too." She said.
I'm looking forward to today, it's not much but now that I'm a free man, I want to spend it doing things I hadn't done before.
Like spend time with my mother.
We each got ready and headed out to the store.
She had to drive since I never learned.
In fact, I don't know how to do a lot of things and I'm 23 years old.
Its embarrassing...
The store wasn't so crowded when we got there and we took our time as well while we roamed the place.
