"It's been so long..." Kai whispered, staring at the night sky, holding an old photo. "(Y/N), where are you now?"
She had shut him out again, disappearing into her darkness. He couldn't find her no matter what he tried. (Y/N) had just hidden herself entirely from him.
His phone rang. "Kai?" A voice came out. It was Ruki.
"I found (Y/N)!"
"Yeah! Turns out she lives on the floor above me. I had no idea! Should I go to her and tell her I know you?"
"No, don't! She and I haven't spoken in years...she'll get creeped out if you show up and tell her you know her ex-boyfriend. I'll come over and meet her on my own."
* * * *
Kai rang the doorbell, his heart pounding in his chest.
After a minute, the door opened a tiny bit. Wide, (e/c) eyes stared at him through the gap.
"Hey, (Y/N)..." Kai said, hardly able to believe he could see her again. "It's me, Kai."
"Yeah." He smiled. "I've missed you."
"You can't stay."
Kai felt like the wind had been knocked out of him. "W-what do you mean?"
"You can't stay, Kai. My darkness will only hurt you more. I love you too much to let that happen."
(Y/N) gasped, and clapped a hand to her mouth. "Y-you have to leave!" She squeaked.
"I can't," Kai said miserably. "I want to help you fight your darkness. I want to take it on with you. I love you too much to let you stay in it alone."
After a moment, the door opened further. "Come in," came a small voice.
Kai sat on the sofa, next to her. "I didn't want anything to happen to you," she said. "I was afraid that you would get too involved, and you'd get hurt in the end."
"You still wear the necklace," Kai noted. "I gave it to you the day I told you I loved you. I promised, didn't I? I'll always be here for you."
(Y/N) didn't respond. So Kai decided that he would.
He reached out and hugged her. "Please..." he whispered. "Let me support you again..."
She said nothing...but Kai noticed that she gripped the back of his jacket, and that his t-shirt was slightly wet with her tears.
"It's okay...I'm here for you...(Y/N), you don't have to remain in this darkness alone anymore..."
