I Lost You

My friend
My love
My brother in arms.

You asked me to protect the body you hold,
the person you are,
the people you love,
the memories that always seem to fade.
I promised you I would.
A promise I couldn't fake.

You asked me to save you.
Save you from yourself.
I swore I would, and I did.

When we returned with all limbs intact
I found myself missing my heart,
and you your head.
I lost my power to love
You lost your power to know.

You knew I loved you.
You knew I would die for you.
You knew you loved me.
You knew we fought and we survived.

I know we got through it together.
I know I still love you.
I know it was a hard battle.
I know you still love me inside.

We forgot though
At least you did,
I remain the only one who remembers.
I know you know my name.
Minutes later though you forgot.
It's alright, I still love you.
And I always will.

No matter what you forget, I'll always remember. I'll remember us. You and me.
