(26| Children's Ward Hospital)
---
Not everybody found themselves to earn income as easily as the company's who run oil businesses, or celebrities. So therefore, that left the everyday normal jobs for the majority of the population.
And some jobs were deemed harder than others. Some of them are mathmatecally based and others other emotionally based.
Your job was definitely emotional at times. Along with long hours and daily shifts, the children's ward hospital is where you found yourself most of the time. And it was not an easy job, but with the physical and mental strength, you turned up to every shift, prepared for the day ahead.
"(Your Name)," looking back at one of the nurses that called, you gave her your undivided attention, "there is an orthopaedic patient asking for you. She's situated at the end of the hall."
You knew exactly who she spoke about as you lifted yourself from your seat.
"Thank you, I'll be right there." The nurse gave you a small smile and left the room just as quickly as she had entered it.
Pulling your jacket off from the back of the chair, you then swung it around your arms and grabbed the phone from the desk.
"Oh!" The same nurse popped her head into the room again as you made your way towards the door. "I forgot to tell you, your shift from eleven to one in the newborns room, you'll have a volunteer with you."
You raised your eyebrow at the information as you came to her side, the two of you walking up the hall.
It was on some occasions where you'd have somebody come in and volunteer, out of their own time, to hold and cuddle newborns. It wasn't a lot to ask for, and these infants needed to create the connection to someone, but lately... less and less people have been volunteering.
In fact, this was your first helper in two weeks.
"When will they be in?" You asked, approaching the end of the hall.
"Well, we told him to come in about eleven o'clock. But he brought it upon himself to come earlier." He? Well that's a bit strange.
Over the past few months, the majority of people coming in to volunteer here were women. So it was good to see a man coming in and helping you out after the long while.
"Ok, that's all good. Thank you for telling me. When he comes," you began, halfway in through the patients door, "tell him I'll meet him at the front desk." With a nod of your coworker, she gave a quick goodbye before leaving to her shift for the morning.
"(Your Name)!" You heard a weak call and looked back to see the young patient lying limply on her bed.
"Hey sweetheart," you smiled shutting the door and approaching her bed to give her the attention and affection she needed.
---
The coworkers around you were discussing the young kids that they had helped out today. How some of them reacted to treatment and how these nurses were going to help them through their tough conditions.
You threw the now empty plastic sandwich carton away and dusted your hands off, finishing your lunch break.
It was actually the first time that you've had lunch in your office for weeks. Usually you'd always be with the kids, eating and having lunch with them. So it felt a little weird sitting at a table with other nurses, because you were here for the young ones, to try and make light out of their dark life.
"(Your Name)," your head spun round to see the same nurse that approached you this morning, waiting at the door, "your volunteer is waiting at the front desk."
Looking down at your watch, the time read 10:42 am. He was twenty minutes early. Wow.
"Ok, I'll make my way down." Grabbing your white coat attire, you shrugged it on before walking down to meet your volunteer today.
The nurse's outfits usually consisted of a aqua green colour, and the coats were just spares really. But it was a bit chilly today, and this air conditioning definitely did not help.
Stepping out of the elevator, you came over to the front desk where reception sat.
"I'm here to collect a volunteer for the newborns session."
"Right here." Craning your neck back, your saw a man slowly come to his feet before he approached you. And my god, if you jaw didn't drop at how beautiful he was, then you obviously weren't gawking right. "Name's Niall." He winked, holding a hand out to insinuate a shake.
Your voice choked up in the back of your throat as Niall chuckled.
"What's the matter? Cat got your tongue?" Clearing your throat and centering yourself, you took his hand and shook it.
"I'm (Your Name), a nurse here." Niall bit his bottom lip and slowly pulled his hand away, letting his fingers linger over yours a bit.
"Well (Your Name), let's go cuddle some infants." With a nudge to your shoulder, you swallowed hard and nodded, both of you making your way into the elevator.
So not only was he drop dead gorgeous and a little bit flirty, but he had a soft spot for children and a low ego to cuddle infants. He's the whole package. But a man like him must have a girlfriend, definitely.
Straightening your back at the thought, the elevator dinged open as you stepped forwards toward the newborns room.
"Now, Niall, let me lay down a few protocols before we go in." Coming to the door, you stopped and looked back at the blonde man. "We only have a short amount of time to console all the newly born children in there, so there will be a time frame on each. It's not fair to give one more attention than another. Also, if you need to use the restroom or excuse yourself from the room, just slowly raise a hand like this," you demonstrated, "and one of our staff will take the infant from you."
It seemed like Niall didn't blink once throughout that whole speech, it freaked you out a little. He just stared intently at you, hanging off your every word.
"Any questions?" You asked, feeling like you had regained some kind of power while with Niall.
"Yeah," he stepped closer and leant an arm on the doorway, "you free tomorrow night?" And like that, your power persona drained. Your eyes widened at the offer as Niall then chuckled to himself. "Let's give some newborns affection."
Watching him step into the room, he was greeted by a few other nurses inside, before easily being sat down and handed a child.
His arms wrapped tightly around the infant as he securely pulled it up to his chest. The look in his eyes changed, and he somehow went from this confident flirty boy, to this emotionally connected man.
And just like that, you knew Niall would come back.

Sorry it took so long for me to write, I had a bit of issues with this preference. But luckily, Google and a bit of study for children's ward helped a lot. I hope you liked it, thank you mnh0826 for the request! Don't forget to Vote and Comment below Xx
