I was looking forward to my meeting with Ryder's mom. She had picked my favorite diner - Katerina's. That was another thing that I was happy about.
It was already near afternoon and I was heading out of the Hospital. I was really glad that I had a half day shift at the Hospital, so I could take a break now for our meeting.
On the way to my home, my phone chirped and it indicated that Ryder was calling me.
"Hey!" I greeted him happily as I picked up the call.
"Hi. Uh, are you busy today?" He asked me, his voice sounding as happy as mine.
"Well, right now, I kinda am. But I have the evening free." I replied.
"Oh, you in the Hospital now?" He questioned.
"No, I'm actually heading home. I just got free from my shift." I told him, as I adjusted the strap of my bag on my shoulder.
"Great! So, I'll pick you up from there and then drive you home." He chirped happily.
"No!" I shouted at him, through the phone. I had screamed so loudly that a few passersby were looking at me like I had gone crazy.
"Geez! You just damaged my hearing system." Ryder whined.
"I'm really sorry. I just, kinda need some alone time. That's all. How about, I meet you in the evening?" I asked him.
"Yeah. Evening's fine for me. But, are you sure that everything is okay?" He asked, worried.
"Of course, everything's okay. Why wouldn't it be?" I shrugged.
"Uh, I don't know. You.... You're not trying to break up with me, right?" he asked. His voice sounded so sad.
My heart melted at the thought that I was indeed important for Ryder. The fact that he was worrying about our relationship, was relieving for me.
"Are you crazy? I'd never break up with you. Never in a million years. I know that I'm a crazy gal, but not that crazy to break up with you." I joked.
He chuckled and continued,"Alright. I'll pick you up at six if that's okay and please dress comfortably."
"That's totally okay. But wait, are you asking me on a date again?" I couldn't help the smile on my lips as I asked him this question.
"Uh, maybe." He replied. I could practically imagine him running his hand through his hair nervously.
"Okay. I'll be waiting." I replied happily.
"Bye." He said in a breathy whisper as he hung up.
The little phone chat with Ryder had already made my day happy.
Currently, I was getting dressed for my meeting with Ryder's mom.
I had planned for a simple floral dress, short denim jacket and a pair of blue converse. Simple yet classy.
As I finished dressing up, I tied my hair in a messy braid and left my room with my wallet and cellphone.
Making my way downstairs, I saw my mom in the kitchen.
"Hey mom, I'm going out." I told her, placing a quick peck on her cheek.
"Where?" she asked me, stirring the soup she was preparing.
"I kinda have to meet Ryder's mom for lunch." I shrugged.
"Really? Oh honey, I'm so glad. I really like Ryder." she grinned happily, her brown eyes twinkling.
"Even I like Ryder. So uh, I'll see you later." I told her as I made my way out of the kitchen.
Katerina's was walking distance from my house, so within no time, I was making my way into the cosy diner.
I immediately spotted Ryder's mom who was already seated in a booth, drinking something from a mug.
I made my way to her,"Hi Haley." I smiled.
"Oh hello honey. Please make yourself comfortable. I hope you don't mind that I already ordered myself some coffee. I was really craving some." she smiled, the corners of her eyes forming crinkles just like Ryder.
"That's totally okay. Nobody can stay away from the coffee goodness of this place." I replied with a smile.
"I totally forgot to tell you. You look really pretty today." she complimented me.
"Thanks. So do you." as I said this, her lips broke out into an even bigger smile.
We sat there for a long time, chatting with each other about random things like my parents, work, favorite color and other stuff.
"So, do you like Ryder?" she asked.
"Yeah. I really do. And I think that I might love him too." I said, shyly.
"That's amazing." she clapped her hands together and continued,"I'm so glad that he found you. And I'm so glad that he listened to you about taking the treatment. I wanted to be there for him when he found out about his cancer, but I couldn't. I wish I could proudly tell everybody about the struggle and hardship that my son has been through. He survived through all of it and now leads his life happily."
"About that, I'm kinda writing a book on Ryder's life. Even I feel that everyone should know about his life, his struggle and his success." I told her, nervous that she won't like the idea.
"That's so great! Did you tell him?" she grinned again.
"No. I didn't tell him because I want to surprise him when the book is finally completed and published." I told her.
"This is going to turn out really good. I can't wait." she said eagerly.
"Yeah, me too." I replied.
As we chatted about the book some more, it was finally time to leave.
"Tamara honey, could you please ask Ryder to meet me here tomorrow afternoon? I really wanna see him." she asked hopefully.
"Sure. I'm meeting him tonight. I'll talk to him, but I can't guarantee if he'll show up tomorrow or not." I told her.
"That's no problem." she replied with a bubbly smile as we parted our ways with saying goodbyes to each other.
