Okay guys, I added this little Author's Note because I'm tired of sifting through and answering your "where is McKenna" and "why didn't Lee end up with McKenna" comments. There are literally hundreds of them, and I understand why, but I figured I'd make an Author's Note about it versus trying to answer all of your individual comments, which would take me hours.
Lee met McKenna when he was 16-17 years old. I can remember the guy I dated when I was 16 years old. I don't talk to him anymore, in fact I haven't seen him since we shared a college class together a couple of years ago and exchanged all of 3 words...
Anyways, Lee & McKenna were high school sweethearts. They were there for one another during a transitional period of their lives, there to break boundaries and to test limits. They supported one another in times of need and grew with one another in areas of weakness.
But at the end of the day, they never classified the feelings they felt towards one another as love.
McKenna moved back to Michigan. She never came back. She rebuilt her family, she coped with the death of her sister and only then did she start to grow and develop as a strong and independent woman.
Lee continued schooling at Jefferson Lake, and with the weight of the trial and Cornerstone lifted from his shoulders, it gave him a little more room to breathe. He was more open to talking about his suicide attempt, which allowed him room to grow as he explored his past mistakes and learned from them.
I know you guys are unhappy with my decision to split them, but it was important in the end run for both of them. They had to let go before they could move on.
So there is going to be one last chapter uploaded to Jefferson Lake. It's going to be a Bonus Chapter written in a different POV than Lee. And then the book will officially be over.
It's been a a amazing journey with you guys, but I'm going to have to cut this Author's Nite before I get all mushy because it will happen. I love you guys so much and I can't believe Jefferson Lake is actually going to end here soon. (I legit cried while searching for gifs for this Author's Note.) I'll miss you ratchets so much, it so amazing interacting with you in the comments and reading your opinions on certain subjects that went down throughout the book. And it was just so amazing listening to you guys' personal stories that you shared with me, I'm so honored and touched that you would confide these things in me. I'm so blessed to have such amazing readers and I'm not ready to let this book go. So now that I'm actually crying, I love you guys bunches and I'll see you in the Bonus Chapter.
