The girl remained aboard the ship for many days. She grew close to the people, and was accepted as one of their own. They taught her their ways and they taught her their tongue. They made offer to her that she may be robed in the same manner as themselves, yet this she declined, wishing to cling to what sparse origins she possessed of herself, that she might one day collect the rest. Despite this, the people bid her to make merriment with them and partake in their bacchanalian feasts. At the end of every day, rich as they were with the exploration of new galaxies, they danced and sang. Each night they relished the jubilant company of one another. After the night's festivities however, the girl would research and plan, hoping to find her mind.
This continued for many happy weeks, until the people began to tire of the girl. She would happily join them for their nightly parties, yet she never eased herself to the level they did. Never did she allow herself to become as riotously drunk as they were. Preferring the grapes to the wine, they soon became bored of her. She began to go unnoticed by the people, apathetic as they now were to her company.
Although saddened that she had lost the close companionship of her fellow star-travelers, the girl took solace in immersing herself in her search for the bits and baubles of her mind. While undergoing the tedious task she had assigned herself, she began to softly sing to herself to while away the hours:
Standing there alone, the ship is waiting
All systems are go, are you sure?
Control is not convinced
But the computer has the evidence
No need to abort
The countdown starts, watching in a trance
The crew is certain
Nothing left to chance, all is working
Trying to relax, up in the capsule
"Send me up a drink", jokes Major Tom
The count goes on
4, 3, 2, 1
Earth below us, drifting falling
Floating weightless, calling calling home
