Jay's POV

I strode into the school confidently. People smiled at me and waved. I grinned and waved back.

This school was my home.

Still, something upset me. It was like I was waiting for something to happen. I couldn't focus or do anything because I was waiting. For something. Something big.

I shrugged off the feeling and headed to my first class of the day: music.

"Morning, Ms. Hill," I remarked cheerily, smiling at the teacher as I walked in.

"Hi Jay, how are you?" she asked.

"I'm really good, thanks. You?"

"Lovely. Listen, Jay, we have a new student today. I was wondering if you would like to show him around, help him out a bit?" Ms. Hill requested.

I nodded. "Of course."

"Great! His name is Nathan and he'll be sitting next to you. I checked his schedule and his classes are with you. It shouldn't be that difficult."

"Okay. Thanks!" I turned away and down in my chair.

I took out my sketchbook and started doodling. Nothing special, really. Just a horse. I got lost in the details of the drawing.

Ms. Hill's voice snapped me out of my drawing. "Okay class, as I told many of you, we have a new student today. His name is Nathan Sykes. Please make him feel welcome."

I looked up at the newcomer.

My jaw dropped.

He was beautiful.

His eyes were a brilliant share of green-more-than-brown hazel. A ring of dark green circled the irises, just enhancing their beauty. His luscious brown hair was pushed up. It looked like it would be silky and fine. He wasn't tall, but not really short either. He had a little round nose and an adorable smile. So many fine lines and colours. I'd love to draw him.

His eyes met mine. I quickly flushed and closed my mouth. He blushed a little and moved his gaze on.

"Nathan, please sit next to Jay. Jay, would you raise your hand, dear," Ms. Hill said.

I signalled where I was. The cute boy made his way through the desks with long, powerful strides before sitting down in the chair next to me.

"Hi, I'm Nathan," he said, holding out his slender hand.

I shook it. It was warm and smooth. "I'm Jay," I replied, giving him a warm grin.

"You're in my classes, I hear."

"Seems to be the case."

"Lovely. I can have a friend here."

I felt my face go hot. He actually liked me. "Yeah," I just said.

Nathan's beautiful eyes travelled down to my lap. I glanced down to see my sketchbook was open. I hastily closed it.

"No!" he said quickly. I raised an eyebrow at him. "I...I just mean, it was beautiful. You draw so well!"

I was blushing again. "Thank you."

"I wish I had talent like that. I can sing, and people tell me I'm good, but I think I'm pretty crap at it," he confessed.

"I'm sure you're amazing."

His gaze met mine. After some time I became aware that I was smiling like a fool, and probably looked creepy. I coughed and looked away.

"Well, you'll get a chance to sing. We're doing our songwriting unit in here. We have to write and perform a song," I told him, carefully avoiding getting lost in his eyes.

"Fun!" Nathan exclaimed.

It was then that the class actually started. I kept steeling glances over at him, taking in little details. I had a sharp artist's eye, so I caught several.

The slight curves on his arms, suggesting muscle. The hollow of his neck. Deep crevasse in his ears. Slight bit of stubble on his face. Smooth skin. Finely prominent tendons in his neck. Bushy eyebrows. Slender yet fit form, covered in skinny jeans, converse, sweatshirt...

This boy.

I mentally whistled. I wasn't gay, but this boy...this was a work of art. A sculpture. He belonged in a museum.

And he was here. At this school. In my classes.

I smiled to myself. This was it. The big something.

He's here.
