Namjoon - Songwriting

"How about this?" You ask Namjoon for the hundredth time.

He grabs the lyric sheet from your hands. His eyes roam over the paper rapidly, nodding his head in approval.

"The lyrics are great." He pauses. "I just don't think it flows well."

You sigh in frustration. "I think it's fine."

Namjoon rolls his eyes. "Can you just listen to me for once?"

"Let's ask the others how they feel about it."

You rise angrily from your chair and head to the dance studio where the other members of BTS are rehearsing. Namjoon follows behind you, equally as frustrated. You stop outside of the room and peer inside. Jungkook and Jimin are sitting on the side, while Hoseok goes over the new choreography with the Taehyung, Yoongi and Seokjin. You smile as you realize Hoseok was using some of the phrases you came up with.

You open the door and wave to the members. Hoseok quickly runs over to stop the music. He grabs a few water bottles and hands them to the boys.

"I see you've been stealing my moves." You walk over to Hoseok.

He slings his arm over your shoulders. "They fit perfectly to the song and they're easy to remember. I hope you don't mind."

"Not at all," you smile. "But the next one will cost you."

"Jenni," Namjoon speaks. He holds up the papers and waves them around impatiently.

"Oh, right." You walk over to him and grab the papers. "Namjoon doesn't think my lyrics are good enough."

"I didn't say that," Namjoon argues. "I just don't think the rhythm flows smoothly."

Yoongi make his way over to you. He holds out his hand and you give him the papers. You watch in anticipation as he reads it over.

"Namjoon's right," Yoongi says. "The rhythm is off."

Your shoulders sag and you snatch the papers from Yoongi. He looks like he's about to say something but Hoseok shakes his head slightly. You turn around and head back to the studio.

When you reach the room, you throw your papers onto the table and take a seat. It's been three days since you started working on the song and no matter how hard you tried, you couldn't get it right. You wanted to make this one special and decided to put your heart into it, but it just wasn't perfect. The song was supposed to be about your years as a trainee and the struggles you faced. You thought that it was the perfect topic.

You don't hear the door open, but you feel a comforting hand on your back.

"Come on, Jenni," Namjoon says quietly. "It'll come to you."

"You don't get it." You fight to keep your voice even. "You're a pro at this. It's easy for you to write songs and make music."

"It's not always easy."

"Sure," you say sarcastically.

He takes the seat next to you. "Lyrics don't just come to me. Sometimes I sit for hours and can't think of anything."

You lay your head on the table and turn to face him. "What do you do?"

"Walk around mostly. I try to find inspiration through what I see. Sometimes I try to remember life before Bangtan and how much I've changed."

You groan. It's hard to see Namjoon as just a regular person with normal, everyday struggles since he's become so successful. Honestly, you look up to him and how honest his lyrics are.
