" The worn door with brushed-on paint barely clinging to it creaked loudly as she forcefully pushed it open using her shoulder. The door didn't have a trick to it, or a certain way that it needed to be treated to be opened successfully, it was just old. A train racing down tracks echoed loudly in the background, irritably piercing her ears and disrupting her serenity. the cramped one bedroom apartment that she referred to as Home was barely furnished, with hand-me-downs she had received from previous boyfriends.

The floors were brown, but not intentionally, they were just dirty. A few childrens' toys scattered on top of the accumulated dust layer. She sunk into one of the chairs that still barely held together. The passing trains wheels screeched on the track. She was home. A home is where love is, where love is created, where love is found.

She gazed around but was too tired to allow her mind to drift into thought. she was always tired. Never really had time to think. Her eyes were heavy as she surrendered to the darkness by shutting her eyelids onto one another. Whistling a sigh through her teeth and over her unpainted lips. Hoping to get a few minutes of rest, even a power nap.

A loud knock badgered on the front door as her mind drifted off. she erected her body upright in the chair and a frightened look painted across her face. she struggled to her feet, parted her hair out of her face and made way to the front door.

"Hi Snow," Eli greeted politely. his frame blocking out the hallway behind him, he was not a large man, but well build with a muscular tone.

His overalls hugged his biceps and smears of oil, most probably from the workshop, were noticeably on his cheek. She smiled a 'hello' and dropped to a knee to embrace her daughter.

"I brought Emma home, may I come in?" Eli suggested and fished for a thank you.

"Thanks, sure come on in. Emma go put your things in the room."

Emma was used to this routinized action, 'go put your things in the room' was signal for stayed there till mommy says its okay to come out. she didn't know why her mother requested this and so subtly suggested it, but she obeyed none the less.

"Your rent is due," Eli reminded Snow with a smile torturing his upper lip. "When are you going to pay?" her tried to evoke an answer.

She knew that he didn't want cash as they had an arrangement of payment that he preferred. she had the money in her purse to cover the rent, she took a lot home from the club. Yet she alluringly pouted her lips and unbuttoned her blouse.

"Now a good time?" she teased, already knowing the answer

. A home is where love is, where love is created, where love is found. But she didn't love Eli, he was merely a friend that took care of her daughter when she was at work, taking care of the clubs' men. He cared for her. But she craved a man. A real man. A man like her Father.
