Chris slipped on the loose tile that everyone knew was there and dropped the plates and glasses. I think he did it just to make to make me laugh, it worked. We were both rolling around on the floor laughing when Nina and Jay came in.
I told them the story in between gasps of air and soon we were all rolling on the floor laughing. Of course, they brought up my getting stuck in the car. That just made THEM laugh harder. Matt came in, rolled his eyes at us and left. It was some ridiculous hour in the morning by the time we had stopped laughing, I had eaten and we had all gone to bed.
Still, there was something bugging me; and it wasn't the dream. There was some force growing in the mansion... a very dark force.
No matter what the stories, novels and more recently, movies, say; me and Nick are the only ones straight from hell. Well he was in heaven first and then fell to hell, but you get what I mean.
I knew that the energy wasn't me, so it had to be Nick. If he was having some sort of emotional hiccup, that was really his business... I really shouldn't interfere... I was half way to my door before I realized what I was doing. What can I say, demonic forces draw each other.
I walked to his room slowly, I'd changed back into my silk nightdress and there were goose bumps raising on my skin. I had the raising feeling that something was very, very wrong. I knocked twice, but nothing happened. He was definitely in there...
I opened the door, it was unlocked. It looked like Nick's room had been on the wrong side of an angry ex, the place was upside down from top to bottom. Not to mention there were black feathers everywhere. Nick what have you done...?
"Nick?" I whispered. "Nick where are you?"
Unsurprisingly, no answer.
I followed the feeling instead, right out to his balcony. He was just standing there, emptily staring at the dark gardens.
"Nick?" I approached him slowly. I didn't know what he was doing, or what happened, but there was something very wrong with him.
He's never like this, ever. I looked out into the darkness, trying to find what he was looking at.
"Vi?" when I looked back, he was staring at me, his eyes black as the night. My eyes widened. He was so far gone in the hell call... this was not good. He took a few steps towards me, and I didn't budge, the first mistake is to show fear.
When he was so close that I could taste his breath, his arms shot out around me. I froze, completely caught off guard. He didn't let go, in fact, he tightened his arms. Eventually I relaxed, just letting him hold me. I guess he just needs comfort right now. He buried his face in the crook of my neck, I felt something warm and wet against my neck.
I think he's crying...
"Nick what happened to you?" I whispered, wrapping my arms around his waist.
"It doesn't matter," he whispered back. "I'll be fine."
"You're a crap liar," I sighed.
"I will be fine," he told me. "A good hug cures a lot, you should know right?"
"What?" I tried to pull back, but Nick was too strong. I didn't like how this was going.
"I saw you with Chris earlier Victoria," he was shaking again. "Don't you- don't you know how I feel about you?"
I pulled back. I knew I was going to have to face this eventually. I've tried to hide this, I haven't even thought about it, but it had to come up some time.
"Nick," I took his face in my hands. "Chris was making me feel better, after my nightmare, he's like my brother. I'm not lying, Nick, I don't think of him that way."
He gave me a look, a look that hurt my heart.
"As for the other part," I gave him a small smile.
Without warning, I pulled him down and kissed him as hard and as passionate as I've been wanting to for a long time. I just could never find the right moment, but I guess it was here.
"Yeah," I pulled back. "I don't how you feel Nick, 'cuz I've felt exactly the same for a long time."
Then there were no words, there was just kissing.
I don't think I've ever felt more attached to someone in my life. I might not have been with him long enough to love him... but I don't think it's far off. Not far off at all...
The only problem is.... nothing good ever happens to a demon without a price, and usually its one I can't afford to accept. Even if it's something brilliant with a dark angel, nothing is without it's price for me.
I can't lose another love, I just can't.
