"Babe, I'm home!" I called. I didn't get a reply. I walked into the kitchen and saw a note on the table.
'Out w/the boys. I'll be home at about six. I love you darling!
I smiled, but a sinking feeling in my stomach left me uneasy.
I'm sorry. Let me introduce myself. I'm Alexandria Stone. But everyone calls me Alex. I was dating Zack Matthews. Yes, as in Liverpool's own, one of the best footballers in the UK. But I'm really not seen. Most people don't know I exist. But that was fine with me.
I heard the door open and someone giggle. Ah, that would probably be Louis.
"You here, Alex?" Zack asked.
"I'm in our room!" I called. Zack came in with a huge grin on his face.
"I missed you," he said as he wrapped me in a loving embrace.
"I missed you too," I said. He let go and sat on the bed.
"So what did you do today?" he asked.
"Not a lot," I shrugged. "I went over to El's and we hung out. Then I went grocery shopping. I just got home a few minutes ago. And you?" I joked. They had been at practice all day.
"Just practice. The usual," Zack said, shrugging.
"How long until the season starts?" I asked, as if I didn't know. I was gonna miss him a lot.
"Three weeks," he said, looking at the ground intently.
"I'm gonna miss you so much," I told him, looking into his soft brown eyes.
"Actually," Zack's face lit up, "I talked to Simon about that today. He said you could come with us when we're away. The team gets a hotel, and he'd get you a room."
My heart skipped a beat. I could go on tour with them instead of being lonely and crying with Ellie, Louis' girlfriend.
"Really?!" I exclaimed. He nodded and I kissed him happily. His lips tasted like peppermint. I leaned against his arm.
"Really. And you can come on the bus with us," he added. I smiled.
"I really love you," I whispered.
"I love you, too." He kissed my head. "I got you a present."
"You didn't have to," I said.
"Yes I did," he replied.
"Why?" I shot.
"Because I love you," he smiled. "So anyway, I got you this."
He reached into his coat pocket and got out a little black velvet box. I gaped.
"It's not...?" Zack shook his head, reading my mind.
"No. It's a promise ring. I just want you to promise that no matter what, we'll always be together," he explained. I nodded and he slipped the simple band on my finger.
"Zack, wanna play Wii?" I asked. He nodded. We went into the television room and flicked on the Wii.
"Dibs on Yoshi!" Zack called childishly.
"Fine, I'll just take Koopa Troopa," I said, sticking out my tongue. He laughed.
Game: Mario Kart
We played every cup. I won three, and Zack won the rest. The only one we hadn't done was the Mushroom Cup. We went into it. By the last race, I had lost all the other races, and Zack had won.
"I'll beat you!" I vowed.
"Sure," he said, laughing. "Just like all the other times?" I punched his arm playfully.
3, 2, 1!
I hit Zack and cruised into first.
Lap one, down.
Lap two, down.
It was the final lap and Zack came out of nowhere. He hit me into the mud.
"Not nice!" I complained. He laughed gleefully as Yoshi passed over the finish line.
"I love you," he cooed.
"Shut up!" I joked. I took his controller. "Seriously, you must be cheating! What's your secret?"
"You're my secret," he said, kissing my cheek.
"That's not the secret I'm talking about," I said, rolling my eyes.
"But you're still a secret," he said, smiling.
"How about we call over the guys and have a movie night?" I suggested. Zack nodded.
"Sounds like a plan," he said, dialing in their numbers.
