Chapter 13

“Charlotte” he smiled happily, before stepping forward and putting out his arms for me to hug him.

I was completely shocked by what I had just learned. Surely I must have been dreaming. How could I be the daughter of M Shadows.

Matthew fucking Sanders

“Well…hi…there…” I stammered in shock, completely speechless. “Uh…”

I think my grandmother had guessed that I was a fan of the band, but Matt didn’t seem to have a clue as to why I was just standing there.

I vowed to myself that I would deny all fandom of Avenged Sevenfold. Which also meant that I would have to unpack all of my clothes myself. Quite a few of the items were Avenged merchandise.

My grandma pushed me forward a little bit, and Matt wrapped his arms around me. I actually felt star struck. Completely so. As his arms around me tightened, he pulled me inside the house.

I was immediately hit with a warm sensation, and started to warm up and relax a little.

My grandma followed us from behind and I also felt the presence of someone else there. Valary, probably. I loved how I already knew so much about my family without having ever met them before.

But of course, I would have to play ignorant.

He unwrapped his arms and held onto my shoulders, looking at me from an arm’s length. “I can’t believe it’s you” he whispered.

I didn’t know how to respond. I didn’t know how to react to any of what was happening. I wasn’t sure I liked the idea of being a Sevenfold kid. I would make no friends whatsoever. Everyone would use me.

I was going to be completely alone, again.

Pretty soon, I felt another hand on my shoulder, squeezing it, which caused me to turn my head to the left.

I turned to be met face-to-face with Val.

“I’ll leave you three to it now,” my grandma smiled before quickly leaving the house.

“Hey mom don’t you want a ride home?” Matt asked her almost instantaneously. As they began arguing over if my dad should take her home or not, Val pulled me aside a little bit.

“I can’t believe that we finally get to have you back” she smiled, close to tears. As she began talking, I assumed that she was my mother.

Still not knowing what to do, I smiled. I felt guilty for it, but I just didn’t know how to react. I knew that I should have, but I didn’t.

I felt rather numb, really. It all seemed to happen too fast.

“I…” she started again. “I just can’t…”

She too then proceeded to wrap her arms around me. The sad thing was, I had never had so many hugs in such a short space of time.

While enclosed in her arms, I could hear Matt still talking to my grandma.

“Well, okay” he groaned in annoyance. “You call me as soon as you get home.” And with that, I heard the door slam, and be locked by someone that I assumed was Matt.

She held me out, staring at me again.

“Okay Val,” Matt edged in to the conversation – well, if you could even call it that. I had no idea what to call it. “I think you’ve creeped our daughter out for long enough now. I’m sure she’s tired.”

I decided that it was time to speak up. “No, actually. I- I- I’m not tired at all.”

“Well, then” he spoke up nervously. “Should we just like…talk…or something? I’m sure there are lots of things that you’re wondering about.”
