So here we are at the end of LETTERS FROM NEW YORK, and find myself reminded of something Neil Gaiman said during his signing tour for The Ocean at the End of the Lane about that book being “a short story that unexpectedly became a novel.” That is what LETTERS is for me. A novella that turned into an unexpected novel. A “between story” that, during the course of its writing, became a pivotal entry in the BLOOD MAGIC Saga. I’m not sure I or anyone else could have predicted that.
It’s going to mean that I'll have to make some tough decisions when the time comes to bring the BLOOD MAGIC Saga into print. And if any book in this series ends up being massively reworked prior to publication, it’ll most likely be this one. But I’m going to let it sit for a bit, so I’ll be able to look at it with fresh eyes when the time for those decisions eventually comes. (Right now, I’m still deep in the novel edit of BLEEDER.)
If you've enjoyed LETTERS FROM NEW YORK please consider voting on the book’s chapters and telling your friends about the BLOOD MAGIC Saga. And if you have any feedback for me on my writing or this story/series - good or bad - I’d love to hear it. Comments remain the most delectable writer food out there.
As far as what comes next, the current plan is to start serializing RULER [Blood Magic, Book 3] on January 1st, 2014. But before then, we’ll be releasing the cover art (featuring artist Justin Erickson’s rendition of Nosferatu Keel) and lots of teasers and extra goodies. To stay in the loop, please follow me here on Wattpad, fan the BLOOD MAGIC Saga Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/bloodmagicsaga and be sure to check in with the official website (blood-magic.net) regularly.
Thank you all so much for taking a chance on my work, sticking with the series, and allowing me to share my stories with you. You guys are the best!
Now, if you will all excuse me, I'm going to go check off the "completed" box on this book. ;)
