I raced up the stairs and started banging on the wooden door, uncaring about how loud I was being. It took a few minutes for someone to answer, I almost mentally complained before realizing it was almost 5:30 in the morning.
The door in front of me opened with a creek, revealing a tired Phil, complete with bed head, sonic pyjama bottoms and slight bags under his eyes.
"Dan? What's wrong? What are you doing here?" He questioned, trying to suppress a yawn as I pushed past him and into the apartment.
"She's gone. She's fucking gone, Phil." Was all I managed to say, tugging at my already disheveled hair.
"What? Dan, what happened?" Phil asked, concern laced in his voice.
"(Y/n)! She's gone! I don't know where she is!" I cried, raising my voice as more tears found their way down my cheeks.
"What's going on?" Carly asked as she came around the corner into the lounge, obviously wondering what all the shouting was about.
"Okay, Dan, slow down. What happened?" Phil said calmly, motioning for me to continue speaking.
"We. . . we had a fight last night. We were arguing about something and I said some stupid things and she ran out. I should have followed her, I should have fucking followed her. . . !" I cursed, anger evident in my words. "She ran out, and I waited for her to come back, but she didn't. . . I went outside and I found her phone on the ground, and she wasn't there. . . Phil. . what do I do. . ?" I finally broke out into sobs, kneeling down on the carpet with my head in my hands.
"You don't know for sure that something bad happened! M-maybe she just took a walk and needed some time to cool off. . ?" Phil questioned rather than stated.
"No, she wouldn't just leave out of the blue like that! I know her, she would have said something. She would've called or texted or anything!" I wept, wiping my nose on my sleeve like a child. "I know something's wrong. Don't ask me how, I just know. I can feel it."
"I-I'll go call t-the cops." Carly said, her voice breaking in between sniffles. Somehow persuaded by my break down, she quickly turned around and disappeared to find the phone. Phil came over and crouched in front of me, pulling me into a hug.
"We'll find her Dan, and Winnie. They'll be okay." Phil tried reassured me, but somehow I wasn't convinced.
____________
The police came to the apartment soon after and questioned me about what happened, before sending a search party out to look for (y/n). Normally they would have waited a few hours to see if she would come back before they started searching, but because they feared it had something to do with Winnie's kidnapping, they started the search right away.
I found myself in the police station, the very same station I was in with (y/n) a few months ago when Winnie was taken. I was starting to really despise this place.
I sat hunched over in a white plastic chair, staring blankly at the wall ahead of me. After thirty minutes by myself and one awkward conversation with an old lady that had sat beside me, Phil showed up with two large cups of coffee in his hands. He handed one to me as he sat down.
"Sorry I took so long. Starbucks was unsurprisingly busy." Phil said before taking a swig of his coffee. After I didn't answer, Phil looked over at me and sighed.
"She's going to be okay, Dan. You can't blame yourself for this, it's not your fault."
I didn't respond, I just continued to stare at the wall ahead of me before taking a sip of my coffee. The steaming liquid stung my throat as I took the drink away from my lips, warming my fingers with the cup.
