CHAPTER FIFTEEN: “PLAY PRETEND”
“So are we going to talk about it or what?”
“I would rather not.”
“Look Dre, it’s not like you have much of a choice” Ant said before taking a shot at the basket. “What you did last night was messed up.”
Anthwan was over at DeAndre’s place for their usual Saturday morning basketball games. That and he needed to clear up some things. He didn’t call like Dre asked him last night because some things are better handled in person.
“What I did?” Dre asked as he caught the ball on the rebound.
“You put me in a very awkward situation. Me handling the aspects of the business with Azania was never part of the equation. That was your responsibility. So the least you can do, is give me an explanation.”
“Ok” Dre sighed. “Azania is not feeling me like I’m feeling her. I went in there with the best of intentions but somehow ended up with an ultimatum.”
“She told me to back of or we lose the contract…so what I did last night was me backing of. My advances were clearly unwanted.”
“Ok but does this mean that you’re backing of from the business side as well? Where does this leave me?”
“I’m still your business partner. That’s not going to change.”
“What about meetings and stuff that needs to be handled?”
“Ant I can’t go to these meetings…”
His pride was wounded, he could at least admit that much to himself. It has been a while since any woman rebutted his advances.
“Why not? Because of your bruised ego?”
“You don’t understand…”
“Make me understand Dre.”
“It’s more than a bruised ego…” he sighed. “I like her. I really like Azania Parker.”
DeAndre didn’t even realize that he did, until he uttered those words. He really liked her. Man...he thought as he grabbed a towel and sat on a nearby bench.
“And so every time I’m in the same room with her…I just want to touch her, smell her, kiss her and love on her. I can’t help myself. That’s why I need to stay away from that woman.”
Anthwan was at a loss for words. He thought that the situation between DeAndre and Azania was just a casual affair. Clearly not. His boy was sprung.
“Or else I will end up with a sexual harassment lawsuit” he jokingly continued. “You don’t want your best friend since forever to end up in jail Ant. Orange is not my color.”
“Talk about emotional blackmail” Ant finally said. “So how will the new partnership work?”
“You handle all correspondence with Miss Parker and report back to me-”
“So basically I am a glorified postman?” Ant interjected.
“Yes. But it’s whatever man. You owe me big time for this.”
“I will name my first born son after you” Dre joked.
“At this rate? I don’t see it happening anytime soon” Ant sad taking a seat on the bench next to Dre. “Besides if you name your son Anthwan, what am I supposed to name my son?”
