The next morning I wake up and get ready for school. I notice Allison talking to Kate so I try not to disturb them asking Kate some werewolf questions.
I go to school by myself and once I get to school I head straight to class avoiding Stiles, Jackson, and Scott. I don't need them to ask questions about last night and the only reason I'm avoiding Stiles is because I feel like if I'm alone with Jackson I would ask him a ton of questions about last night and he'll be annoyed.
"Just a friendly reminder parent/teacher conferences are tonight. Students below a C average are required to attend. I won't name you because the shame and self disgust should be more than enough punishment. Has anyone seen Scott McCall."
I look around not noticing that he left.
Soon the door opens and Jackson walks in and sits next to me.
"Hey Jackson," Mr Harris whispers in Jackson's ear. "If you need to leave early for any reason you let me know." He went back to the front of the classroom. "Everyone, start reading chapter nine. Mr Stilinski, try putting the highlighter down between paragraphs. Its chemistry not a coloring book."
Stiles spit the cap into the air and put it on his highlighter.
Then he turned around to Danny so I listened.
"Hey Danny can I ask you a question?"
"Well I'm going to anyway. Um did Lydia show up in your homeroom?"
"Can I ask you another question?" Stiles asks.
"Answers still no."
"Does anyone know what happened to her and Jackson last night?"
"He wouldn't tell me."
"But he's your best friend. One more question."
"Do you find me attractive."
I try to hold in a laugh by smiling a little.
Soon the intercom sounds through the class.
"Can we have Abigail Argent to the office."
I leave with my stuff and in the hallway I see Derek.
"Come on, were leaving."
I follow him. He was heading to the boys' locker room.
"What are we doing."
"I've got to talk to someone."
After Derek talked to Jackson scaring the crap out of him we went back to Derek's house.
Derek took his shirt off and started doing pull ups on the door frame. I couldn't help but stare.
"What are you looking at?"
"You," I say smiling.
He smirks a little and drops to the floor doing push ups now.
Suddenly there was a sound of leaves being crushed under feet.
"Hide!" Derek says.
I run outside through the back door and hide by the side of the house.
"He wants us to wait." It was one of the hunters. I recognized his voice.
"So I've been reminded to death," my aunt Kate says.
"And that means we're not allowed to kill him."
"But it doesn't mean we can't say hello."
"No ones home."
"Oh, he's here. He's just not feeling particularly hospitable."
"Maybe he's out burying a bone in the backyard."
"Really? A dog joke? We're going there, and that's the best you got? If you wanna provoke him, say something like, too bad your sister bit it before she had her first litter. Too bad she howled like a bitch when we cut her in half."
"This one grew up in all the right places. I don't know whether to kill it or lick it."
I decided to sneak to the front door so I could see what's going on. When I looked through the door the hunters were lying on the ground and Kate was standing in front on Derek.
"900,000 volts. You never were good with electricity, were you? Or fire. Which is why I'm gonna let you in on a little secret. And maybe we can help each other out. Yes, your sister was severed into pieces and used as bait to try to catch you. Unpleasant, and frankly, a little too Texas chainsaw massacre for my taste, but quite true. Now here's the part that might really kick you in your newballs. We didn't kill her. You think I'm lying?"
"Wouldn't be the first time," Derek says.
"Tsk, sweetie. Well, why don't you just listen to my heart and tell me if I am. Okay? We... Didn't.... Kill.... Your.... Sister. Do you hear that? There's no blips or upticks. Just the steady beat of the cold truth. Found bite marks on your sister's body, Derek. What do you think did that? A mountain lion? Why aren't we helping each other out? You might as well admit what you've been guessing all along, which is the alpha killed your sister. And all you have to do is tell us who he is and we'll take care of it for you."
Derek looked past Kate and put his eyes on me. Motioning for me to wait outside.
"Problem solved. Everyone goes home happy. Unless... You dummy know who it is either. Wow. Guess who just became entirely useless."
I see Derek start to run so I follow him and we don't stop running until we're in the middle of the preserve.
"So thats what my aunt is really like."
"Hey are you okay?"
"Yeah I'm fine.. Just.. Let's get you back to your house."
"Wait," I say. "Parent/teacher comfrences are tonight. I've got to go."
"I'll take you."
We go back to Derek's house thankfully Kate and those hunters are gone. I get in Derek's car and he takes me back to the school.
When we get there I wait outside for my parents.
Soon a bunch of parents walk out of the school some accompanied with their children.
I see my mom and dad walking out my dad had his phone in his hand and was talking.
"Have you seen your sister?" My mom asks me.
"No, not since this morning."
Allison and Scott join us and when my mom and dad begin to talk to Allison about punishments we all hear screaming. I look at my dad and he looks worried.
I start looking around cars and that's when I hear a gunshot.
A mountain lion.
