I dragged Ryder towards my bathroom and was glad that there were no embarrassing items lying in there. You get my point.
He sat down on a stool near the sink and waited for me to do my work.
I wet some cotton and wiped it over his wounds.
I repeated that twice and then dumped the cotton into the dustbin.
I then covered up the deep wounds with bandages.
The other wounds were just small scars and would heal in a couple of days.
All through this, Ryder stayed silent, just devouring me with his intense orbs.
"There. All done." I said as I finished with the last bandage.
"You better behave next time. I'm not gonna help you clean your wounds again." I exited the bathroom and Ryder followed me.
"Isn't it your job to help people? After all, you're a nurse." He smirked at his smart answer.
"Yeah, well. I help people who want to be helped. I can't help those people who are suicidal and don't care about their lives. You are one of those people." I told him. I was beyond frustrated.
This moron hurts himself and then has the audacity to question my job.
"Okay. Okay. Geez, I'm sorry." Ryder held up his hands in mock surrender.
"I really get on your nerves, don't I?" He asked, with a hint of guilt in his voice.
I turned around to face him and sighed,"Ryder, you're a good person. You don't get on my nerves. It's the recklessness, the ignorance towards your life, what gets on my nerves."
"I can't help it, Tamara. The recklessness is now a part of my being. And the ignorance towards my life, well, the people in my life have made me like that." He ran a hand through his black hair. Clearly frustrated.
"Look, I get it okay. The adrenaline you feel from the recklessness, by driving your bike and all. And I know that you're not yet ready to share your life's story with me, but you agreed to get the treatment for cancer. You agreed and I want to help you. And in order for me to help you, you have to help me too." I explained.
"Fine, I'll stop with the fighting and stuff, but I won't give up my bike racing. That's the best I can do to help you." He said.
I nodded and asked him,"Speaking of help, why are you here?"
I suddenly realized that I should've asked him this question hours ago. But being the idiot that I am, I didn't.
"I, uh, it's complicated." He sighed.
"Well, I've got the entire night." I told him, sitting on my bed, waiting for him.
He took a seat next to me and got comfortable on my bed.
"Uh, I don't know how to say it." He took a deep breath and then continued,"When you were trying to convince me to get the cancer treatment, I just felt so different. I mean, people have never cared for me and you were so stubborn for trying to help me. I was ready to agree with you in the beginning itself, but I wanted to push you. I wanted to know how far a stranger was willing to go for me. I'm sorry for pushing your buttons too damn hard, but I had to. I couldn't just trust you right away, not when my own family had betrayed me. I came here because I wanted to thank you. I just couldn't wait until tomorrow." He finished with a small smile. It was so beautiful and revealed his dimple.
"Look, I know that you're not ready to tell me about your family yet, but I'll always be here. And you don't have to thank me for it. I'll always be with you, no matter what." I told him, placing a hand on his shoulder and returned him a smile.
Instantly, Ryder picked me up from where I was sitting on the bed, and placed me in his lap. I was straddling him, but he didn't seem to care.
He wrapped his strong, warm arms around me and I was pulled into a comforting hug.
Actually, I was supposed to comfort Ryder, but every time he hugged me, it used to make me happy and comfortable. I could really use Ryder as a hard, warm pillow.
He buried his face in the crook of my neck and caressed my hair with his face.
"Thank you, Tamara. Thank you so much. I'm forever indebted to you. Just tell me how I can repay you, I'll do anything." He murmured into my hair.
"Just show up at the Hospital tomorrow for your treatment. That'll be enough to repay me." I chuckled, pulling back from his hug.
He smiled at me.
I had a habit of poking people's dimples, so I poked my finger into his dimple and said,"You should smile more often. It looks beautiful on you. I've never seen you smile for the few times that I've met you before."
"Now you've given me a reason to smile." He said, caressing my face with his calloused yet gentle hands.
"I'm glad." I said to him, yawning loudly.
He chuckled a beautiful laugh and it's sound vibrated through my body.
"I'm sorry for keeping you up for so late. You should go to bed."
I moved away from him, to go to the bathroom when he caught my hand,"Can I stay with you tonight?"
I thought that I had imagined those words for a few seconds, but then I replied,"I was gonna ask you the same thing."
After I did my bathroom business, I came out to see Ryder sprawled out on my bed. He had taken off his tee shirt, giving me a full view of his beautiful toned body and tattoos.
It looked really inviting.
I went towards the bed and he moved to give me space. I lied down beside him, facing my back to his front.
He wrapped his arm around my waist, the tattoo on his arm glistening in the pale light of the room.
His bare torso emanated warmth into my body and his face was nuzzling my neck.
"What is this?" I was meaning to ask him about the 'relationship' we had.
He seemed to understand me because he replied,"Whatever it is, it's beautiful and I love it. I want it to stay forever. I'm sorry that I can't give a name to it yet, because I haven't experienced this with anybody in my entire life. But I'll soon put a name to 'us' and trust me, it'll be good."
He snuggled closer into my body and hummed in satisfaction.
"That's fine by me." I replied with a smile and drifted off to sleep, Ryder's light breathing becoming my lullaby.
There's the chaptah!!!!
