XIV. An Underground Orientation

Monica's heart was beating wild inside her chest. The men who took her never spoke to her. In fact, she heard nothing but the loud whirring of the chopper. And by the time they had landed on top of a building, she was immediately ushered to another waiting chopper.

And her heart stopped when she saw her father.

He was still the same man she saw last. Big, domineering and with a gentle smile on his face as he finally took her hand and pulled her closer beside him. He did not say anything.

She kept her silence as well, letting her father hold her hand as the chopper flew away once more to somewhere she did not know. He stole her father a glance and wondered how he did the things he did without her knowing. She wondered what drove him to be this vicious. And she wondered if he felt anything when he ordered Theo to get rid of his own brother.

And for a moment Richard crossed her mind. He kissed her before she left, the bastard.

Forcing herself to think of anything else other than that kiss, her mind wandered to the task at hand.

She thought of how she could convince her father to let her into the Liaisons.

She rarely lied in her life, but that did not mean she was not good at it.

When the chopper finally landed on a vast field, her father guided her down and together they ran toward an awaiting car.

Once inside, Monica waited until they were on the road before she finally spoke. "I want to join the Liaisons, Victor."

She figured that shock was the best way to approach him and it was successful. Victor Hong stiffened beside her. "What do you mean the Liaisons?"

"I know about the Liaisons, Victor."

"Did your captors tell you that?" he asked, turning his head to look at her. "What else did they tell you, darling?"

She almost flinched at the endearment but she stopped herself, assuming a cold look. "Everything. Everything you did."

"Who are they?"

She shrugged. "I have never seen them before. Did you give them what they want?"

"You would not be here if I did," he snapped, his brows forming a frown. "Did they hurt you?"

"Not in many sense," she lied.

"What did they do to you?"

"They wanted me to give them your secrets. I told them I don't know what they were talking about."

"Which is true."

Monica blinked. "What makes you so sure?"

Again, shock was the best way to get his attention. He turned his upper body to face her. "What do you mean, Monica?"

She turned to look out the window, counting the seconds as they passed by. "Let's just say I've seen some discrepancies in your accounts and those of your friends in the company. It did not take me a long time to know you are not who you told me you were."

A very long silence followed before Victor Hong finally asked, "How long have you known?"

"A year," she answered, turning to look at him. "But I did not tell them that. They eventually believed that I do not know anything."

His jaw tightened. "They could have killed you."

"I know they wouldn't. They are desperate to get your dirty secrets. I was the leverage."

"And they might take you again. Which is why I have arranged for you to be taken out of the country—"

"I told you, Victor, I want to be a part of the Liaisons."
