Imagine . . .
"Lu, can you believe it?"
"No, I don't think I ever will. This feels like a dream and I'm afraid to wake up at any moment," you say and he's smiling. The two of you have made it through everything. Thick and thin, sticky and slippery, peanut butter and jelly; neither of you have left each other.
The love that you and Hunter share is remarkable and it's also something you'd also read in a fairytale or a fanfiction. You feel like you're a princess living your wildest dreams. The two of you have been together for eighty years and still going on strong. Everyone envies the love you two have for each other, even the fans but they're glad that the both of you are extremely happy together. At the beginning Hunter used to get upset because many of the fans didn't support the love you two shared but throughout the years, the fans realized that you made Hunter happy. They began to accept you and want you as much as they wanted Hunter.
"Remember everything we went through just to be together?" He asks slowly taking pauses every once in a while. He can't talk as fast as he used to, but he still can sing. Nothing's changed about him really. He's got a few wrinkles here and there, he can't jump around and off things because he'll bust a hip or something important. He'll usually just walk around and dance like the adorkable person he is. He's extremely fit for his age.
"Yeah," you say with a small chuckle, "all the stories from the paps and the fans."
"Like the one where they said that you were pregnant because we met at a party," he says shaking his head.
"That's a weird story. You've never been to party and gotten drunk. You're too good for those kinds of things."
"Our love made it through it all," he says smiling. He's proud that you stayed no matter what, "I'm so glad that you kept your promise."
"Me too. I'm more than thankful that you kept yours. I don't know where I'd be without you. I love you so much," you say and he kisses your cheek. You smile and he pokes your dimple.
"I love you as much as I love the dimples that you absolutely hate. They look cute on you," he says and he continues poking your dimple. You burst into fits of laughter and he starts laughing with you too, "I love your laugh."
"Well, thank goodness. I don't know what I'd do if you didn't like my laugh."
"We'd have to buy earplugs or something," he says seriously. You can't tell if he's joking or not, but then a small smile creeps up on his face. He couldn't hide it anymore and that's when you knew that he was joking, "Lu, I was joking."
"I know. Oh, Sam will be here soon with Maxine and the kids," You say remembering that your son would soon be arriving with his wife, twins, and his grandchildren, "I know you miss him."
He turns away from you. He doesn't want you to see him cry. He missed his best friend, Sam Ellis, "It's my fault he's gone, Lu. I should have never asked him if he could do me a favor. I sent my best friend to his death."
"No. You did not do that. Sam wanted to help you. I know you have done the same for him too. You would have helped him too and I know he'd be thinking the same thing you are. It's not your fault, it's not Sam's fault, it's not the drunk driver's fault and it's not my fault. God needed and wanted to take Sam. He needed him more than we did.
"Besides, Sam lived a good life. I understand that you lost your brother and I lost my best friend too. He was always there for us, but look at our boy Sam. He's just like him, Hunter. Our Sam is like Sam Ellis. There's nothing different except that he's our son. Do you know how proud Sam would be of our baby boy?"
A tear was a running down his cheek. He always blames himself for what happened that night of the accident. You wrapped your arms around him and he began to sob. Today would be seventy-five years without Samuel Ellis, "Hunt, remember what Sam said to you?"
He shook his head. You knew that Hunter remember everything Sam said word for word, but he couldn't handle his emotions right now. He was emotionally unstable, "Sam told you that he'd find a way to be with you. You're his little brother and he was going to protect you no matter what."
"He died as soon as our Sam was born," he whispered and he rested his head your shoulder.
"Hey Mom. Hey Dad," your son, Sam, said as he walked onto the back porch. He was the only who knew where the spare key was. His wife, Maxine, was close behind him. She happily greeted both you and Hunter. Your twin grandsons, Aidan and Alexander, greeted the two of you as well.
Aidan, one of your grandsons, was blessed with a beautiful daughter named Elizabeth and a handsome son named William. Meanwhile, Alexander was blessed with twin girls, Carrie and Kate, and twin boys, Reid and Brandon, "Hey, Dad, what's wrong?"
Sam asked his father who was still sitting on the back porch. You were able to hear the conversation Hunter and his son perfectly, "Your uncle. I miss him."
"I know, Dad. I never met him, but I miss him too. It hurts me knowing how much you miss him. I saw some of the weekly Monday videos you used to make for the fans and I know for a fact that he wouldn't want to see you missing him like this," Hunter's son said, "Besides, I'm here to protect you since he can't do it anymore."
"I know, Sam. I know. You don't know how much I missed you," Hunter said as he got up and hugged his son. You knew exactly what Hunter meant. He knew that your son was just like Sam Ellis. Your son, Sam Hayes, was always there for you and Hunter, "I missed you so much."
"I haven't gone anywhere, but I miss you too, Dad." The two of them came back inside the house and Hunter took his place by your side.
"I don't think I could ever change this family for the world. This is epic," Hunter said as he wrapped his arms around your waist.
"You two are so cute," Maxine said, "I mean, seriously. You two are so cute and it gives makes me so happy to see you happy and such."
"Well, merry Christmas to the best family I could ever possibly have and to the best wife I could ever have," Hunter said.
