Chapter 91 Revisited

Beginne am Anfang

"Alright, Jules!" The leader of the group – the Scouse fucker (his real name was Miles but that didn't make a difference) – said to her with a huge grin on his face. He sat down beside her, pushing her a bit which in turn pushed Tommo down the line.

Tom braced himself. He wasn't going to lose his place next to her.

"Where's your fiancé?" Miles went on. "Last time I checked, the bloke sittin' next to you wasn't him."

The other two geezers laughed and pulled out fresh cigarettes. Well, one of them laughed. The other one hardly said anything but that was the norm.

Tom took his first opportunity to take the mick out of the jokey one and it worked. Too bad he couldn't say the same for Miles.

"So Jules." He went on. "When's this wedding? Are we all invited?"

"No." She told him. It was the answer Tom was hoping for and it felt so good to finally hear it.

Miles kept on with his pestering until she finally blew up on him. When were these fucking idiots going to leave?

"Are you havin' a smoke or what, Miles?" The quiet one – another Northerner called Jeff – asked after blowing out a hurried cloud of cigarette smoke.

"Alright!" Miles said as he pulled out a fag. "Have you got a light?"

Jeff passed him his lighter but he was far from shutting up.

He held the lighter between his fingers, flipping it around. "I'd ask Jules for one but I know she doesn't smoke. I bet she spends a lotta time flickin' Liam's Bic though." A shit-eating grin appeared on his face as he held the flame up close to hers.

"Leave 'er alone, ya prick!" Tom was done with this bull shit. He was so fired up know he felt no shame in telling Miles to fuck off.

Miles looked slightly unnerved as he finally put his cigarette in his mouth. He took the piss out of Tom in an attempt to even the playing field.

After what seemed like forever, the three finished their smokes and disappeared back inside to the party...with Jules watching them the whole way.

'She can't be interested by in someone like them.' Tom thought as he watched her watch them. 'Then again, she chose Liam.'

And then she said something totally unexpected.

"I'm so tired of Pretty Green."

"What?" He asked. Surely he heard her wrong.

But he didn't. She went on saying she was tired of it all. She thought she didn't fit into this world but she was so wrong about that.

Could he be the one to show her the truth? Maybe she'd believe it more if he did.

She let her fears out with slight tears streaming down her cheeks. Her biggest one being about "the bloke". Was his love for her real? If so, how long would it last? It's not like her worries were without merit. He had a history and baggage that everyone knew about even if he refused to acknowledge it.

Eventually, Tom was able to change the subject.

Take a look around and see what you wanna see

There's a train tonight we'll leave when you wanna leave

Of course, they wouldn't need a train to get to where he was thinking.

She smiled from ear to ear and giggled. She agreed as one of her fiancé's songs started to boom from inside the club. She got up from the table and mouthed along with his voice and playfully made gestures to go along with the lyrics.
