Chapter One Hundred Seventeen

Charlie was frustrated with every jeweler he had come across. Some were helpful but many weren't, all insisting that they knew just the ring when they really didn't. None of them appealed to what Charlie envisioned Anora wearing. That's if she said yes.

He hoped she would say yes.

He hadn't thought of what he was going to do if she said no. Now that was another stress factor added into his life.

When he returned late in the evening, Anora and Iggy were asleep. He slept on the sofa, knowing if he crawled into bed it would awake Anora and he knew she would have some questions about his whereabouts. She was too smart for her own good.

The next morning, he awoke early to make sure he was up and out the door before Anora awoke. He found Magnus on his morning walk around the sanctuary.

"So, how did it go, my boy? Did you find one? The perfect one."

"No, not at all." Charlie told him. "It's a lot harder than it sounds. I guess I'm frustrating the jewelers as much as they are frustrating me, but I can't see Anora wearing a diamond ring, that's not her."

"You're right, that doesn't sound like Anora. Sounds like my first wife." Magnus said before shuddering.

"The problem is, I don't know what I want for her because nothing is jumping out at me." Charlie sighed. "I don't know what to do."

"Well, before you leave to try again, I suggest you take a moment to think of all the things that Anora likes to father some inspiration. You know her better than anyone here, what does she like?"

Charlie stood in the field preparing to leave again when he was approached by some thunderous steps.

"Hey Roscoe." he said before turning around.

The dragon paused mid step before plopping down to the ground. Charlie walked over as he noticed the fresh cut on the dragon's face.

"What did you do? Piss off Norberta again?"

Roscoe moved his head away from the man.

"I'll take that as a yes. I'm telling you Roscoe, you can't be a show off around her, she'll put you in your place real quick."

Roscoe's tail flickered as Charlie neared him again. "Well, let me get Sebastian out here to heal that up for you, because if Anora found out that I was out here and didn't see that you were taken care of she'd kill me. Because she just loves her precious little Roscoe."

The dragon let out a groan.

"Okay so you're not little anymore, but you are precious to her. You always will be."

Charlie smiled as Roscoe eyed him and finally, an idea popped into the man's head.

"Oooh Roscoe got hit in the face by a girl!" Anora teased the dragon as she found Roscoe later on that morning. Sebastian had been the one to inform of her Roscoe's injury after Charlie departed.

Of course, no one would tell her where Charlie had ventured off to.

Roscoe snapped his jaws at her in a playful manner as she neared him.

"Hey watch it. You ten ton baby! I was only messing with you, no need to get all bent out of shape. Now come on, let me see what little mean Norbie did to you."

The dragon faced her fully to show the wound that ran down his head. "Merlin, you must have really pissed her off last night." she said reaching her hand out.

He pulled away with an irritated hiss. "Fine, if you're going to be pissy, be pissy...by yourself."

"So no one is going to tell me where Charlie really is, are they?" Anora asked Magnus that same afternoon as she found him near the nesting grounds.

"We can't tell you what we don't know." Magnus smiled.

"Right."

"You trust the man, don't you?"

"Of course I do."

"Then what is there to question?"

"His whereabouts. I trust him, but I'd still like to know where he is and what he's doing. I didn't see him at all yesterday, or today so far."

"Must be very important then."

"I guess."

She turned her focus back towards where two juvenile dragons were fighting over a rabbit carcass.

"They're so cute, yet so vicious." Anora said. "I always have to keep on reminding myself that they're dragons."

"I think the dragons have to remind themselves that you're human most of the time." Magnus chuckled.

"Back again?" the first jeweler that Charlie had visited looked up from his work and eyed the red headed man that walked back in.

"Yes and I know what I'm looking for now!"

"Thank goodness."
