She was staring the wild daisies bouquet soaking in the glass vase. She had been sitting there, at the round dining table all afternoon. Thinking of his taunting eyes. His beautiful smile.

Since he had left, she hadn't moved. She was going to keep those flowers. Even dead and naked, she swore to herself.

She remembered...

He had come all the way to her house. Far from his. Far from his responsibilities. A bouquet of daisies in hand; he took her in his arms and kissed her lips tenderly. The way he always did.

She had taken him to the airport. He didn't want her to, but she had insisted. He had kept the bouquet hidden long enough, until he couldn't hold on to it anymore, until it was time to say goodbye. Until he entered the departure lounge. It had been seven hours, thirty minutes, and fifty seven seconds. Fifty eight, fifty nine. Thirty one minutes.

They were lying on the grass, with their head millimeters away from each other. Their mouths a few centimeters from one another.

He was picking at the grass. Took a small spring flower and hung it behind her ear before giving her a welcomed kiss.

"I wish you were staying," she said, and he sighed slowly.

"I wish I were too." He replied observing her. "But orders are orders."

Tears filled her eyes at the memory, staring at the bouquet which should be only reminding her of the good times. Which should have reminded her of beauty and joy.

This joy she had lost?

She remembered...

The day they met. His hair was messy, and he was looking at her tenderly. She could see in his eyes his beautiful soul. His kindness. He had asked her to dance. And they did. All night long. Until the sun came up and he had to leave.

He was always leaving.

He had told her he was coming back. He said he would try. That he would dream of being with her again, every night.

But this time, she had a strange feeling creeping up in her head.

A feeling that she wouldn't be seeing him on her porch another bouquet of wild daisies in his hand.

Because this time, it didn't feel like a goodbye. It was farewell. She could see it in his eyes as he said: "I love you" and his eyes teared up. As the pain felt like needles in their breaking hearts.

"I will always be with you. Never forget that." He said and kissed her cheek. "I love you."

And then he was gone. She lost him in the middle of the crowd which led to the airplane. That led to the place he was about to give his life to. "To make sure you'll be okay without me," he had told her with a sad smile.

That day, he left the love of his life. Alone. With a bouquet of daisies. And she swore she'd keep them even if they died. Because she knew it was the last bouquet of wild daisies she'd lay eyes on.
