Chapter Twenty-Nine: Hope

*Timeskip to 9 days before Christmas*

Kagura's POV

I was exhausted. Sweat dripped from my heated forehead and onto my damaged and sweat and blood soaked clothing.

I thought that I wasn't going to die here. But now, I'm beginning to have second thoughts.

Right before me towered three monsters that lived within the town's forest. The rest have been exterminated and no other hostile creatures could be found in the nearby forests and the dark guilds had already been wiped out.

My own heavy breathing rang in my ears and my vision began to run blurry. I could feel my lungs start to slow and my circulation begin to cut off and blood still dripped rapidly from my open wounds.

"I-I'm sorry... Rogue..." I stuttered ina quiet voice, unable to do much more due to my current state.

Flashbacks began to run through my mind, flashing fast. My vision was cut, and all I could see now was my memories.

*Flashbacks start*

"Do you promise?"

I paused. I didn't want him to go through another promise being broken. They seemed to mean alot to him, and I understand his reasoning.

"I-I..." I stuttered. I took a deep breath for a moment. "I promise." I said confidently.

"Please... Don't break it..." He whimpered.

'I'm afraid... I'm afraid I can't keep that promise anymore. I'm sorry, Rogue.'

"M-Mistletoe?" He stuttered.
It was now Yukino's turn to talk. "Yes. And the rule of mistletoe is that you kiss the person who is nearest to you once you go under it." Yukino had a devious grin plastered on her face.

Next thing I knew, I was caught up in a kiss.

'I remember that.' I could feel a faint smile appear on my face.

Just then, a cloaked figure appeared, looking at me. Of course, it was Rogue. His red eyes piercing me.

"Kagura Mikazuchi." I blinked.

"Kagura... Keep on living... Don't give up hope. Never give up hope."

*End of Flashbacks*

"Hope..." I all of sudden could feel my senses come back. "Hope." My eyes fluttered open.

"I can't give up." I murmured, getting up again, regaining consciousness.

I felt a sudden surge of power as I wiped the blood leaking from my mouth.

"I need to live." I released every last bit of that energy that had been suddenly implanted in my system to eliminate my remaining foes.

I breathed heavily, collapsing from my ending stance onto the soft ground. My body was close to giving out, so I let it.

I woke up in a hospital bed, dressed in a gown and my wounds bandaged and stitched.

I traced my hand down my stomach, feeling my large and now stitched up cut.

"So you're awake, imouto-chan." A familiar scarlet haired woman looked down at me.
"Onee– I-I mean–" I was cut off, stumbling with words.
"You don't have to address me as such. Anyways, what were you doing? I came by to visit this town to visit someone, (A.N:*hint hint* he has blue hair and a red tattoo. If you guys want, I could do a Jerza special) and I find my cute imouto-chan nearly dying in a flowerbed." Her voice seemed stern, as if she were speaking with some sort of authority.
"It was a quest. A decade quest to be exact." I looked down, slight gnawing a small portion of my lower lip.
"And you were alone in doing so? Were you at least close to finishing the job?" She crossed her arms, her voice still stern.
"I was done. I just suddenly blacked out... I believe from blood loss, or anything of that sort." I shrugged, trying to be nonchalant about the current situation.
"It was partly blood loss. But also from magic deficiency syndrome. You've been diagnosed with it." Just then, Erza's eyes narrowed at me with a look of almost precipitating anger. "How much have you been pushing yourself? Is it because of Rogue?" Her sinister voice echoed through my ears and her eyes darkened, giving off a feel of malevolence.

"No. Absolutely not." I said with a sudden force that I never knew I had within me.

Erza didn't expect it either. She took a step back and her face softened and crinkled slowly in confusion. "I beg your pardon?" She blinked.

I blinked too, surprised by my own self. "S-Sorry..." I shut my eyes, inwardly cursing at myself.

"You've changed." Erza somewhat smiled.

"I don't know if it was for the better." I sighed, disappointed in myself.

"Don't be so negative." Erza then sat down by me on the hospital bed. "You're just starting to open up more. You don't conceal as much as you used to... Which can be beneficial. But, can also be the opposite."
"How have I opened up more?" I raised a brow, which surprisingly drained alot of my strength.
"You're showing more emotion on your face. I can somewhat have a hint of what you're thinking. I can tell when you're upset, happy, angered, or in pain. Before you met Rogue, I couldn't tell any of that."

I blinked several times at the requip mage, realizing all of this was accurate.

"I know, it must be scarring to hear those words." Erza gave a small laugh. I could only nod. It was quite scarring. I was always the type to stay calm, except when it came to some anger. I usually spoke in a monotonous tone and blank face.

"You should get some rest." Erza got off the bed and stood up. "I'll be back soon, and once you're all healed up, we'll leave and return back to Magnolia."

I simply nodded and shut my eyes, ready to drift off.
