After I get dressed this morning, I make breakfast and text Tyson to come and eat with Akemi and me. Over breakfast we come up with a plan of action to approach Mrs. Mayfield about moving in with Tyson. After we decide what we are going to do, we finish breakfast and I clean the kitchen and do a quick cleaning of the rest of my apartment and muffins litter box.
On the way to the hospital, I buy Mrs. Mayfield some flowers. I hope they brighten her day. I walk up to the room and I hear her talking to her son and granddaughter. "Carmen is a wonderful young lady. She is the only person who took the time to get to know me. She spends time with me and talks to me. She loves muffin and muffin always jumps in her arms when she walks in the door. She takes me to the grocery store, out to dinner and if I mention that I want to go someplace, her next day off from work, she takes me there. Just because she doesn't talk about what happened to her, doesn't mean that she's a bad person."
"But mom-" Tyson starts. "No. She is a good girl and nothing you can say about her will change my mind." She finishes. "Look, I told her that I wouldn't repeat this, so I'm only going to tell you a little bit of what she told me last night. Some things are happening in her life that she can't talk about. She literally doesn't know anything. From what she told me, when the time comes, she'll be able to answer any questions we might have, but for now, there are no answers. She's good dad. Don't worry about her." Akemi adds.
I hear a sigh from who I'm assuming is Tyson, "I hope so. I just don't want you hurt, mom."
"She won't hurt me. The person who would isn't here right now." She says. "I didn't call her mom. She won't know anything." Tyson whispers. There's silence in the room after that remark. I take that as my cue to walk in the door. "Hey everyone!" I announce myself, "I got you some flowers Mrs. Mayfield. How are you feeling today?"
"I'm doing great sweetie! Let me see those!" She reaches out her hand and I hand her the bunch of lilies that I found for her. "These are beautiful! Thank you so much!"
"It's my pleasure. What did the doctor say this morning?" I pick up one of the spare vases they keep in the bathroom and put water in it. When I walk back into her bed area, she tells me, "I may be able to go home tomorrow! The doctor says I'm doing really well."
I walk over to her bedside taking the flowers away from her, putting them in the vase. I lean down and give her a hug. "I'm so glad for you. I know you are ready to be back home and muffin misses you. I miss you also." She gives me a sweet smile.
Tyson clears his throat and starts his speech, "Mom, I know that we've been talking about this for the last month, but I'm going to ask again. I really want you to come live with us. We worry about you all of the time."
"Yes, grandma. Dad and I really want you near us, so we can take care of you. You took care of us for so many years after mom died, we just want to do the same for you." Akemi elaborates, stepping over to the other side of the bed, and taking her hand.
She looks over at me, "But what about Carmen? She won't have anyone when I leave." I jump in, "I don't want you to worry about me, I'll be just fine and we'll keep in touch."
"You don't have any friends. What will you do?" She asks. "I've been asked to hang out by a few people at the bar. What if I make friends with some of them and you can meet them?" I respond. She considers what I asked for a moment then replies, "If I can meet them and give them the okay, then I'll move back with Tyson and Akemi." She puts out her hand to shake mine in agreement.
