Corey's Pov:
I didn't want to work, hell I didn't even want to leave the house! I was stable. I had the internet. I had food and a working bathroom, but I guess mom doesn't like me mooching off her and dad. So she kicked me out and told me to get a life. She still pays my phone bill so I can contact her at least.
But I have no work experience, no house, and no car. I am the definition of N.E.E.T. (Not in Education, Employment, or Training)
How the hell am I supposed to get a job? Well, I went around and asked the friendly people of Ebott city and a lot of them said Starbucks was a good place for starters. Following their advice, aginst my better judgment, I went to the Starbucks that was close to apartments that rent cheap. I got an application from the manager himself. I put it in the file part of my laptop bag. next I dialed up mom, stupid idea to ask her for money but I needed it so I could get a real house since I didn't have an address.
"Hello, smilesweet." she greeted with the horrible nickname she gave me when I was young.
"Hey, ma. good news and bad news. good news I might have a job. bad news I don't have a place to stay. I need money to get a cheap studio. can you provide?" I hate my voice so much. but I have to call since she doesn't know how to text.
"how much is it first of all and what job are you getting?"
"the studio is 800 a month I need to pay first months rent to get into it. and I'm applying at Starbucks as a cashier"
"oh no problem we'll give you the 800 but that's it," she answered. I gave her a hum in thanks. "also smilesweet, try to get a girlfriend. your dad is complaining again." she was probably pouting and when she pouts she damn well gets her way. I guess I didn't get that from her. "Yeah, sure I'll try," I said walking my way to the bus stop. "I'll talk to you later ma."
"Bye sweet. be good" she said as I hung up. I sat on the bench and waited.
The bus was an hour late and mom was worried beyond belief when I got there. I was practically tackled when I walked in the door. "Oh Smilesweet, where have you been?! you shouldn't worry your poor old mother like that!" she yelled in my ear, her death grip of a hug only getting tighter, she nuzzled my neck-- that is extremely sensitive-- making me blush lightly, and pushed back the moan boiling in my throat. I pushed her back lightly by her waist as my blush faded "the bus was late and my phone died on me." I told her in a bored tone. she sighed and flashed me her charming smile "do you want to stay for dinner?" she asked me, her voice drips honey and her eyes remind me of gray clouds just a few days before it rains. "no, thank you ma" I said as I ruffled my raven hair and sighed making my yawn. she pouts--shit-- and looks down at the floor "oh.. alright. I understand your busy...." she trailed off and my mind finished her sentence 'too busy for your mom'
"I'll just go get the money and you can be on your way," she said as she walked off to the kitchen. I followed her in and got a whiff of her cooking, sweet and welcoming. my stomach betrays me and growls loudly. My mother, who was standing just a foot away from me, looks at my stomach then at my face.
"how long has it been since you ate?" she asked me with a glare. Telling her the truth would probably break her heart, but if I didn't answer she'd ask again louder, more demanding. "This morning" I lied. I know she saw right through me, she always could. "try again," she said, that's how she says I better tell the truth. I ran my hand trough my hair, "ma, I'm not hungry." I lied again. she glared harder "try again."
"mom. please." I tried begging.
"Corey Daniel Woods." her voice now dripped venom. instinctively I flinched, she uses my full name when I'm in deep shit, and well I just lied to her face twice and she hates begging. "Try. Again." she grits her pearly teeth.
I sighed "I haven't eaten in two days."
her eyes widen and she almost drops her purse. "you're staying for dinner, Corey." she said in her 'that's final' tone. I just nod in understanding. "yes ma'am"
Now I'm stuck here. and I have to see my father great. Just great.
