Birds and Wolves
EVERYONE'S PHONES STARTED ringing- all except for Evangeline's, who didn't own a phone yet.
"The offing was barred by a black bank of clouds, and the tranquil waterway leading to the uttermost ends of the earth flowed somber under an overcast sky seemed to lead into the heart of immense darkness," A woman (whom Evangeline could only guess was their teacher) read from her own phone as she walked in the classroom. "This is the last line to the first book we are going to read. It is also the last text you will receive in this class. Phones off, everyone."
The more Evangeline stared at her teacher, the more nervous she grew. Evangeline tensed up in her seat, not being able to help but think that the passage the teacher (who's name was Ms. Blake) had just read revealed something about herself.
Noticing this, Stiles leaned forward and whispered, "You good?"
"I've got a bad feeling about her," Evangeline replied.
"I'm sure it's just nerves," Stiles assured.
They began copying down the notes written on the board when the principal walked in, asking for Scott. Ms. Blake walked him out, returning shortly.
Evangeline tried paying attention, but with Stiles and Lydia whispering about earthquakes and animals, she found it quite difficult.
Their class was disrupted however, when a bird flew straight into the window, killing itself. More birds continued to fly into the window, eventually breaking through the glass.
"Get down everyone!" Ms. Blake shouted.
The crows flew throughout the room, pecking and scratching a people. Stiles dove under the desks, trying to cover both Lydia and Evangeline with his body.
The birds eventually all killed themselves, and the students stood up to see black feathers littering the room.
"Eve?" Stiles asked the shaking girl, the nickname slipping through his lips. "Are you okay?"
Evangeline seemed out of it, Stiles's voice snapping her out of her trance. "Uh, y-yeah, I'm fine."
Stiles glanced at her worriedly; she was obviously not fine.
Evangeline kept whipping her head back and forth, looking for the source of the voice inside her head. She sighed in relief when it went away, shuffling closer to Stiles who wrapped a friendly arm around her back.
Stiles sat with Evangeline on the desk, trying to get in touch with Scott.
"Ms. Blake? Are you okay?" Stiles asked, getting up towards the teacher. Before he could get very far, Evangeline gripped his wrist, causing him to turn around. She looked at him with fear in her eyes, making Stiles wonder what had her so scared. He gave her a reassuring smile, patting her hand softly for extra measure.
