Carra's Pov---

That one phone call. The phone call that changed everything.

My phone buzzed. A text from Estelle.

"Sounds great, you'll have to bring me a souv"

That's strange. The text stopped abruptly. I didn't think anything of it. I didn't bother texting back, I would see her later anyways.

The excitement for the trip to Hawaii was still buzzing inside me. My mom usually would take us on trips across the country, and most recently out of country. I had been to LA, New York, Miami, Washington D.C. , you name it. Last year we went to Paris. Mom decided going to Hawaii would be great. She was right. I sipped on my mocha drink, thinking about the trip that lay ahead of me. People watching was my thing, you'd be surprised about what can learn about a person when you watch. A man sat on the other side of the room. He had a laptop on the small, round cheap table. He was tapping his fingers impatiently and occasionally glancing at his watch.

Business man.

About 40.

No kids or wife.

Obvious workaholic.

He was nervous about something. Waiting. Maybe a business call?

I looked down to see my phone vibrating. I didn't recognize it, so I pressed decline. A few minutes later, the vibrating began again from the same number. Sighing I accepted it.

"Hello?" I said warily,

A soft female voice replied. "Hello, My name is Candace." It went quiet for a few seconds. "I am calling from Heffburn's Medical Hospital. Do you know of anyone named...." She paused, I assumed she was looking t a sheet or something, "Estelle Brewilton?"

My heart jumped. I gulped. "Yes, yes I do...what about her? Is she okay?"

"Her family requested we contact you, and ask you to come down to speak with them at the hospital."

"Yes, okay thank you..." I replied then I hung up. I felt weak. What had happened? Estelle wasn't the type to usually do crazy things. It had to be something small, like a broken toe. I looked around the room, well building. It was my usual time of the day when I came to Starbucks. After school was exhausting, especially work as being a senior. The first three years are nothing compared to your fourth year in highschool. I stood up, my legs felt like jello and my hands were trembling..

After throwing my garbage in the trash, I headed out the door to my car, quickly got in and starting driving in the direction of the hospital. I had been there quite a few times. My brother wasn't the most elegant when he played sports. All that could go through my mind was could possibly have happened. The hospital wasn't too far away, only a few miles luckily. If I had been at home it would have taken atleast fifteen minutes until I finally even reached this road. I was already used to driving down since there wasn't a local Starbucks any closer to where I lived.

I rolled into the parking lot of the hospital. The car screeched to a halt as I was barely able to park. My heart pounded as I locked the door and walked, no, sprinted to the main office. I flew past families waiting to have check ups done or shots due.

"Hello how may I help you?" Asked a nurse with curly brown hair, clearly irritated. More than likely from the amount of hypochondriacs who visited.

"Hi, um. My friend was put in the hospital and I don't know why."

She looked at me annoyed. "What room number?"

Room number? What?

"Uh I mean I don't know. Her name is Estelle Brewilton."

"Ah." Was all she said, and began typing into her computer. "Estelle....this is family and close friends only, did a nurse call you?"

"Yes, Candace I believe."

She clicked her pen, then made a few phone calls. I tapped my foot impatiently. "Estelle...floor 3, Room 306. Please go through this door, to the elevator and you should find your way."

I thanked her before bursting through the doors. I found my way to the elevator. I tapped three. The elevator rose and I felt my heart pounding as each floor was passed. The doors opened to reveal a busy floor, newly brought in patients being wheeled to rooms and exhausted scrambled nurses all over the place. I found my way to her room after almost being trampled. A large glass door, covered with curtains stood before me.

A little plate beside it on the wall read "306". I took a deep breath knocking on the door. It creaked open to reveal Estelle's mother, Laura. "Hey honey..." She said forcing a smile. Her makeup was smeared and eyes red from crying. I knew something was wrong. But who knew I'd be spending my summer in a hospital room with my bestfriend?
