Driving. That's all I was focused on until the usual ding of my phone went off, a text from Carra, my "tell everything to, do everything together", bestfriend. I knew it wasn't a good idea to read the text. After years in high school of teachers drilling into every students head,
"Texting and driving is dangerous, keep your eye on the road at all times!"
, we never bothered to listen. Most teenagers at that time were out partying and getting drunk anyways. Teenage angst had no worries of the future. Unless you were me. The typical quiet girl, never quite stood out, and my personality was a bit in the shadows. While girls my age got drunk and lusted over boys, I was at home reading about the wonders of the universe. Lame, I know.
But hey, tons of people go through that stage. Luckily, when I hit puberty and my chest went from the nearest road flat to buoyant, things changed a little. Instead of going home after school, my junior year was spent at my newly recruited spot on the team at volleyball practice, to the regular house parties with the "cool" kids. I never stopped my occasional star gazing and reading up on mythical creatures who had yet to be discovered. I had always had a click for paranormal things, and unimaginable things.
I glanced at the car beside me. A woman was struggling to drive with two screaming kids in the back. I chuckled. Parenting seemed like it took so much work. I rubbed my eyes, I was sleepy. Lately I hadn't been getting much sleep, I had been having strange dreams.
After some thoughtful thinking, I reached for my phone in the cup holder underneath of where the radio was, glancing away from the road to where the message was waiting.
"Estelle you won't believe what I just found out!!" The text read, "My mom bought tickets for Hawaii for me, her, and my bro this week!"
Lucky. My family had a hard time with money. Carra and her family were pretty well off. I started typing a reply, "Sounds great, you'll have to bring me a souv-"
I was about to finish typing when I heard a screech, along with honks from a distance. I looked up from my phone to see a woman in a car infront of me with fear across her face. What could I do? I couldn't swerve back because the car with the woman and her two children were in the way. I could never bring myself to hurt them. By then it was too late.
I had gone into the wrong lane while I was texting.
Everything went black.
--------sorry if this terribly boring but I promise it will get better!<3
