Long-time friends reunite

The next day, after lunch and after tidying up, I remember I should warn the guys I'll be out for a couple of hours, I have to do it since I'm their guest.

«Guys, I have something to tell you» I begin shyly.

«Go on» Serj invites me.

«A dear friend of mine is here in Los Angeles for just a few days and would like to see me so, if you don't mind, I'll be out for a few hours this afternoon.»

«Oh, that's okay, no problem.»

«A friend, you said?» Daron adds, thoughtful.

«Yep. She's bringing a friend with her and I'll do the same, my co-worker Hilary will join.»

«Uhm...»

I can't stop my mouth from blurting out words with a hint of irony or sarcasm. «Don't worry, I'll be careful and I won't accept candies from strangers.»

The guitarist looks at me for a few seconds with slightly widened eyes and disclosed mouth, then lowers his head and returns to his thoughts, staring into void, after gesturing as if he's saying "nevermind". I awkwardly smile, then I go back to my room to have some peace.

Once I'm sitting on my bed I see the CDs who are still on the bedside table, so I decide to give a first listen to the second album and take my music player and my new earphones and put the CD in.

The first song's start has a nice rhythm and I like it... I let the music flow together with my thoughts.

What did Daron mean to say before? Did he want to come with me? Was he interested in getting to know my friend? Was he jealous of the friend Georgia will bring? Or did he want to get assured that I won't get in troubles? Anyway I'm able to go around the city on my own, the meeting is in the afternoon, it isn't a set-up date, I prefer female company for this meeting and I don't think there could be any jealousy, I highly doubt.

While I'm still mulling over these things a song comes in the earphones and the intro is quite familiar... after a few seconds I recognize it, I've heard it a few times on the radio, it must be a hit song. I check the tracklist and see that the name's song is "Chop Suey!", it doesn't bring anything to my mind honestly, I'll ask Serj about its meaning. The contrast between some hardness and heaviness and the softness of certain parts is very nice and the lyrics are suggestive. Hearing the singing voices of people of which I know the talking voice is quite strange: Serj has got a quite normal voice and when he sings it's versatile and powerful, while Daron's voice doesn't sound very different from when he speaks and it's clear and vibrant, and both voices are beautiful and blend together perfectly.

"Bounce" is a crazy little break before "Forest" that gives me goosebumps as some parts of the previous songs did before, there's something of really beautiful in this song that catches me and I don't know what. Going on, even "Toxicity" sounds familiar to me and I remember I heard it once on the radio in the shop and thought it was cool. A big hard blow comes with "Aerials" that gives me overbearing shivers and even makes my eyes become slightly wet, I think I've just fallen in love with this song.

Once the music finally ends I remain still and silent for a while; I think I'll need to listen more and more to metabolize the music and the words, but I surely like it a lot and I'm not saying this just because I'm friend with the guys who did this.

Once I've looked at the clock I realize I have to get ready if I don't want to be late, so I leave music player and earphones on the bed and go searching for what to wear; I choose a plain black sweatshirt, ripped jeans and dr Martens and I just outline my eyes with black kajal, I don't want to scare anyone. I put on my leather jacket and take my bag, then I go downstairs.
