I woke to the sun shining into the room. The first thing I notice is that I'm not in any pain. I lift the covers up and notice that I'm wearing a long sleeve sky blue pajama top and matching sky blue long pajama pants. I saw white bandages around my ankles and on my wrists. I must've been in the care of a pack doctor.

I sit up in bed, which smelled of fresh rain and the woods. The door opens and a man around six foot-four inches walks in and looks at me. I pull the bed covers over my head, trying to hide from him, scared out of my mind.

I heard footsteps coming over to the bed, I felt the bed dip and the covers disappeared. He reached out a hand to me, I backed away from it and curled into a ball.

"Its okay kitten, your safe, no one is going to hurt you." He says, moving closer to me. I watched as he softly placed his hand on my leg, sparks and tingles erupted throughout my body, a sense of calmness washed over and I uncurled myself from the ball I was in.

"W-w-where a-a-am I-I-I? A-a-and w-w-who a-a-are y-y-you?" I stutter out, looking down at my hands. I felt his arms wrap around me, pulling me into his arms.

"I'm Luca Jefferson, the Alpha King and you, little kitten, are in the palace. What's your name?" He asks, running his hands through my hair, that I only just noticed was washed and brushed not dull and knotted.

"Lila James. Please don't hurt me." I whimper, hiding my face in my hands. I felt myself being shift, I take my face from my hands and look up at him, he was looking down at me, his ice blue eyes held my gaze.

"I'm not going to hurt my Mate, and I will do whatever it takes to keep you safe. Now how about some breakfast, I'm sure your hungry." He says, setting me on my feet, he pulled my arms through a fluffy white robe and picked me up.

"How long were you in that dungeon cell?" He asks, turning the corner, going down the stairs.

"Seven years, five days, eighteen hours." I say, my stuttering long gone because of his calming touch.

"I wish I had of known back then, I could've stopped it long ago." He says, his arms tightening around me a little.

"Don't kick yourself up about it, what's done is done." I say, looking up at him, he smiles at me and steps into what I'm assuming is the kitchen.

I look away from Luca, and look around the kitchen. I wish I hadn't. I saw seven other guys sitting at the table, staring at me. I hide my face in Luca's chest, wishing for the power of invisibility. I start to shake with fear.

"Quit staring, you are scaring my Mate." Luca says, setting me down on a chair that was at the table. "Yes Luca." They said, in unison, getting and scurrying out of the kitchen. I thought it was odd that they called Luca by his first name instead of 'Alpha King'.

"Sorry, my brothers have staring habits, they don't know they're staring unless you tell them to stop. Don't worry they won't hurt you, my mother taught them never to hit a girl, especially if she's the Mate of an Alpha or Alpha King." Luca explains, I relax a little, feeling a wave of safety and security wash over me.

"Mates do that, make you calm, make you feel safe and secure." Luca says, smiling at me. I just stare at him, his eyes holding mine. I have a lot of questions that need answers.

"How long was I out for?" I ask, looking at my hands, my super long hair falling into my face. When I look back up at Luca, he was over at the big silver thing in the corner.

"Almost three weeks, Lily, my sister and pack doctor had to put you in a induced coma to heal. At first Lily wasn't sure why you weren't healing fast, like werewolves do, then she saw your wounds and immediately took you into surgery." Luca explains pulling out various foods.

"I don't heal, I can't. Not with all the Wolf's Bane in my blood. You saw the word carved into my back right?" I ask, Luca looks up at me, his eyes flashing from ice blue to black back to ice blue.

"I saw it. What do they mean by it?" Luca asks, going back to pilling things out of the big silver thing.

"I was born a runt, that resulted in my having a early shift, the Alpha of my old pack kicked me out, and for a while I was free, on the run, if you will. Then I got capture, shoved in a tiny, dark cell and abused for as long as I can remember. Why did you attack the pack that abused me?" I ask, needing answers, closure if you will.

"I got word from my Beta, that girls, like you, were disappearing.  Never to be seen again. It started a few weeks ago, when my Beta Axel found a girl around your age, beaten, bloody and dead. We tracked the trail, and came across a pack holding hostages. Then I smelled you, and my natural instinct was to attack and get you to safety. We've got prisoners from that pack, they're in the dungeons, heavily guarded might I add." Luca explains, just the mere mention of Luca holding prisoners from that pack had me shaking in fear.

Luca must've sensed my fear, because the next thing I knew was that I was being wrapped up in his arms.

"Its okay, they're not going to come near you. I'll behead them before they can harm you." Luca says, kissing my forehead, before going back over to the big silver thing.

"How come your so protective of me? I ask, hopping up from the chair I was sitting in. Luca looks back at me, a smile on his face.

"You are my Mate, I'm supposed to protect you. All male wolves are protective of their Mates, even before they meet." Luca says, closing the big silver thing.

"Oh. Sorry I don't know much about werewolves, I was never sent to school or given any books to learn from." I say, Luca turns around, his arms full of eggs, bacon and things to make pancakes with.

He sets the stuff on the bench and gets everything he needs to make pancakes in. "Never to worry, I'll have someone bring you books or you could go to the library." Luca says, putting ingredients I to a bowl. I go over to him, taking the wooden spoon from him.

"What's a library?" I ask, stirring the pancake mixture. My eyes not wavering from the pancake mixture in the bowl.

"A library is a large room or building that houses thousands of books. Its usually a quiet place to read or relax." Luca explains, watching me as I begin to put the pancake mixture into the pan.

"You like to cook, don't you?" Luca asks, watching my every move. I look up at Luca who was leaning against the countertop.

"Yeah, it was like my escape from all the abuse, you know." I say, turning the pancakes. I felt arms wrap around my waits, sparks and tingle spread throughout my body, I felt a chin being rested on my shoulder. Soft kisses were placed on my exposed skin.

"Lily says that we have to be careful around you, because its going to take a long time for you to get settled into being in an open space. She said that because of your past, your going to be extremely cautious and scared of everything. But don't worry, I'll be by your side every step of the way," Luca says, placing soft kisses on my cheek. "We'll go shopping for clothes for you, when you feel up to it." Luca says, I hear footsteps coming in our direction and hurry to hide behind Luca.

"Why do I smell a rogue in our pack house?" Some girl says, sniffing the air, I heard Luca growl at her, and stepped away from Luca, only for the girl to look right at me.

"And she's a runt too. My day just gets better. Don't worry Alpha King she won't bother you again." The girl says, baring her teeth. I whimper in fear, and back away into the wall as she steps forward. My eyes filled with pure terror.
