(NOT JUST A LOKI STORY - this story is about many marvel characters with Esther Mason and Loki Laufeyson as the main characters - and also includes a Steve Rogers romance side story with... well you'll have to see :))))

Once upon a time, there was...
He looks down for a moment, his expression still as hard as his black heart and showing no sign of a soul in him. He is a villain. And that's all.
I clench my fists and I try not to hit him. I think for a moment before I choose my words and say, "How much more grievous are the consequences of anger than the cause of the anger itself?"
He looks at me plainly, something terrifying behind his eyes. "Both are nothing compared to what is inside me. You would do well to remember that," he warns harshly before turning his back on me and walking away.
I stare at the back of his head as he walks to the other side of the cell. As I hate to admit it, I feel very threatened and intimidated by him. I know he can hurt me and kill me in the flash of a second, and that makes me stand on my guard instantly. I growl and light my left hand on fire. What I wouldn't give to just scorch him right now, but I made a promise. And I never break a promise. I wish I could, but I won't. If I kill him now, the lives of so many others would be for nothing. And S.H.I.E.L.D. would probably throw me in prison for the rest of my life.
I shut my eyes, trying to contain my anger as his words haunt me. There is something seriously wrong with this man. And I don't even know the slightest of it...
That is what terrifies me.

STEVEN ROGERS:
I stand alone watching the security cameras after Loki and Esther have finished yelling horrid things and turn their backs on each other.
What was said makes me slightly concerned... This girl is a broken soul filled with anger. And he is a loose canon; completely mad.
It makes me nervous watching them. But at the same time I detect something there. They are both at the bottom. Villains. And maybe that's what we need to get the information from Loki. I know he won't give it to any of us.
Agent Romanoff walks to my side.
"I don't know how long we can keep them both contained without a fight breaking out," I tell her as I watch.

"Well they're both crazy and have major anger problems," she points out. "Maybe it was a mistake to put them in the same cage."
