Thank you for checking out the story.
Tamara's POV :
I stood there near the dirt covered track, gripping my jacket tighter to my body.
The hooting crowd of cheering teenagers and the wild sounds of roaring bike engines made me shudder.
This was way too much adrenaline for one night.
"Yo, Tam!" I turned around to see Trevor, my best friend, making his way towards me through the pile of people.
"You made it!" He breathed out as he stood in front of me.
"Yeah, well, I didn't want to make it, but considering it's your birthday and all..." I trailed off.
I didn't like such places where people were being wild and risking their lives.
I was a nurse for God's sake. I wanted people to be safe.
"Thanks. Well, you know, only two things can make my birthday special - watching a bike race and you. As long as I have both, I'm the happiest man alive." Trevor grinned.
"I'm glad that you mentioned me in that equation, because if you wouldn't have, then I wouldn't be standing here in this hellhole for so long." I replied haughtily.
"Relax Tam! Just live a little. Besides, you're not the one who's gonna ride those bikes, you'll just be watching." He placed his arm casually on my shoulder and gave it a squeeze.
"Trev, watching an illegal bike race is the last thing I wanted to do, riding a bike doesn't even count." I explained.
"Well, I'm the birthday boy and I decide what you do. And, you're here because I decided that you'll be here with me." He smirked.
"Yeah, yeah." I waved him off.
Trevor led me to a spot near the race track, where we could be safe as well as we could watch the race properly.
The bikes of the racers were parked pretty near to the place where we were standing.
As soon as I saw a guy making his way towards his bike, the crowd first went silent, then erupted into howls and cheers.
"Yeah, that's our man!" Trevor said from beside me.
I took in the biker's appearance. He was tall and dressed in black leather jacket, black jeans and black boots. The first thing that I noticed on his face was his lip ring, on the right corner of his lips. His eyes were as black as night and his black hair was tousled effortlessly. His strong jaw and sharp nose gave him a Greek God kinda look. His toned skin twinkled in the moinlight. This guy was beautiful.
He shouldn't be a night rider, he should be a runway model.
I pushed my thoughts away and dragged my eyes unwillingly towards Trevor,"Uh, Trev, who's 'your man' exactly?"
"That, my dear Tam, is Ryder Henderson. He is epic. He has never lost a race. And isn't it amazing that his name kinda matches his profession?" Trevor looked as happy as a kid at a candy shop.
I just nodded.
Ryder gracefully made his way towards his bike, carrying a helmet in his glove clad hand.
Then another guy popped out to talk to Ryder. During their conversation, I noticed that Ryder never said a word to the other man, he just responded with a few nods of his head.
"Hey, does Ryder have a speaking problem?" I asked Trevor as I pulled on his jacket's sleeve.
"Yeah, you got that right." He just shrugged.
My eyebrows shot up,"What do you mean?"
"Well, he's sorta a lone wolf, I guess. He never talks to anybody. Nobody has ever heard him speak." Trevor explained, running a hand through his hair.
"Wow!" It was all I could say.
The race began and ended pretty quickly. It was no wonder why people loved Ryder.
I didn't know much about this, but even I could tell that Ryder was pretty good. For him, winning such things looked like a piece of cake. But, I never saw an expression on Ryder's face, not even when he won the race.
That was pretty odd!
"So, next round's gonna start soon." Trevor said, clearly excited.
I opened my mouth to tell him that I wasn't staying, but someone shouted - "Cops!"
As soon as that happened, people went crazy. They started running, clearly not wanting to get caught by the cops.
Amidst all this chaos, I lost my grip on Trevor's jacket and the next thing I know, Trevor is gone! Poof! Just like that.
I started panicking. I didn't know what to do. If I get caught, it will be bad for my parents' reputation.
A large body crashed into me, pushing me to the ground. I fell to my knees and saw small bruises starting to form on them.
"Come on." A deep, velvety voice said to me.
I trailed my eyes upwards to see Ryder's beautiful face. He bent down to grab me and stood me up.
He carefully led me to his bike and handed me an extra helmet.
I stood there dumbly,"No way! I'm not getting on that!
"Do you have a better option?" He questioned, clearly pissed that I was wasting time.
Reluctantly, I grabbed the helmet from his hands and placed it on my head.
I swung my legs over his bike and heard him say,"Hold on tight."
I wrapped my arms around his torso and immediately felt his hard, warm body under my palms.
As Ryder was leading us outta the crowd, I suddenly realized -
Wait! He just spoke to me!
