The air was filled with deafening silence as the Meidō closed up behind Inuyasha. Sango falls to her knees and starts sobbing. Miroku wraps his arms around her shoulders, comforting her. Shippo stares at the spot of the missing well, tears rolling down his cheeks. Sesshomaru turns his back and begins walking away.
"Sesshomaru-sama!" Jaken yells, catching up to the fierce dog demon.
"Sesshomaru-sama!" Rin yells happily, running after them.
Sesshomaru stops. "Rin."
Rin stops a few feet behind them, a puzzled look on her face. "Huh?"
Sesshomaru kept his back to her, a distant look in his eyes. "Stay here."
"B-But why?" Rin knew this time was different. It wasn't like the other times he told her to stay behind. Her eyes began to water.
"You belong here. Where you will be safe."
Jaken looks up at his master, who always was so stoic and impassive. But in this moment, there was a note of sadness in his voice.
"But I want to go with you!" Rin starts running towards them. "Please Lord Ses-"
In an instant, Sesshomaru's head turns to the side, revealing a red eye and sharp incisors. "RIN!"
Rin freezes, shocked at how quickly his attitude changed. She stays where she is, bows her head, saying, "Yes, Lord Sesshomaru."
Kaede comes beside Rin, taking her hand. "I will care for the child in ye absence, Sesshomaru-sama."
Sesshomaru's eyes fade to their golden hue and he turns away, leaving them in their stance. Jaken gives Rin a somber look before following behind.
"Come child, my special soup lifts any frown." Kaede says with a soft smile.
She leads Rin in the opposite direction towards the village, passing by the missing well. Sango and Miroku follow suit, leaving Shippo staring at the ground. Rin turns around, just in time to see the figures of Sesshomaru and Jaken disappear in the forest's shadows.
