This week, I asked Wattpad:
What Makes Your Character interesting?
I received a few very interesting answers. I learned a lot about their characters!
@3shaCat was the first person to answer the question. She said, “Lacie Evans from The Devil Herself:
Her father was blamed for crime he didn't commit. Her mother and sister were killed in a fire that was an "accident". All those things were done by the Kings (a surname). She made a contract with a demon to have her revenge on them.
She can kill a man in cold blood. Charming when you meet her but is manipulative and kinda cruel. But she does try to protect the innocent.”
@jplorne continued the scary by saying ”Well, in the most recent work I've started, Sandred gave away part of his (soul?) to resurrect his dead sister. Now he looks like death and smells like a decomposing corpse, which is a thing people tend to notice. Also, the sister is bound to him wherever he goes.”
Great characters so far! I love the small things that just make a character who they are.
On a lighter note than blood, death, killing and giving away souls... @Alicia16b said, “The most interesting thing about Raven is that she's random and likes to make jokes, even though most of them isn't funny. She's a weird character and really odd, but the sad thing is that it doesn't show very often because she's so depressed over her fiancé, Kenton, who died in war.” Well, that turned from better to worst fast. I really feel for these characters!
@Pineapplebuddy continues with the hardship of character’s lives. At least we don’t have boring characters here on Wattpad! She said, “In my story Complicated, I have two main characters! Melanie is very... no-nonsense, in a way. She absolutely hates talking about her feelings, and she is very independent. She has a health condition called Uveitis (it affects her eyes), and she has a bad relationship with her mother. Because she knows she's at a disadvantage, she tries to pretend as if she has everything under control and that she doesn't need anyone's help. But deep down, she's also a really compassionate person, mostly because she knows what it's like to have an imperfect life.
Leo, on the other hand, tries to live life as much as possible. He, too, has problems at home, mostly revolving around money. He feels that he has to take care of his mom and his younger sister, and he hates knowing that he can't protect them from everything. Despite this, he tries to keep people from seeing into his problems by keeping up a happy-go-lucky front (but a lot of it isn't a front, he really is easy going). He's also extremely arrogant, and thinks he's God's gift to women everywhere.”
Last but not least @BrittLynne gave the most detailed description of them all, “Adora Rose Angelo, known as Addie to her friends and Ad to a very select few, is determined to be good. She left home at fourteen when she fell for a guy in the Unseelie court that her parents forbid her to see. The years that followed were filled with cruelty and senseless violence. She woke up one morning when she was barely eighteen having killed a man. Everything she's done in the two years since has been her own selfish quest for redemption.
Since the day it happened she's refused to use her 'abilities' and she's taken up with an Elven private investigator she sees as the quintessential good guy. Addie struggles to live life to his definition of good as she no longer believes she can tell the difference between right and wrong. She pretends to be the good guy measuring each good deed against her bad and waiting for the day the scale evens out. Personality wise she gets inside her own head which can sometimes cause her to become dark. She's a well of never ending knowledge when it comes to the Fae and Fae related crimes. She's protective of those she loves which at the moment include two people and she highly believes avoidance is the best policy, at least when it comes to her parents that have recently tried to reconnect with her. She is seen from the outside as a good guy she just doesn't know if doing good alone is enough to make her good.”
Thank you all so much for answering! And I hope you people at home have learned a few things about interesting characters!
