Chapter 26

Celeste was the only person who had been seriously injured. Everyone else just had minor cuts and bruise. Eli and Kendra both had no injuries, and Shen's head had looked worse than it actually was, just a small cut.

Eli hadn't said much. Hailie was still feeling a little nauseous and had been sitting on the floor again with the bucket on her lap when he came in to find out how they were. After making sure Celeste and Shen were fine, he had just crouched down in front of her and asked if she was alright and about Benji.

He looked as if he was about to say something else but just stood up saying he had things to deal with now that there were so many new people on the ship. He paused at the door and turned around.

"Hailie, what were those things you were throwing?" he asked.

"Yeah. I noticed some things missing from the cabinet," Shen said.

"There were two types, one causes pain and the other makes people dizzy and nauseous," Hailie said.

Shen burst out laughing. "Sea sickness? You gave sailors sea sickness?"

She hadn't thought of it that way. She could see a slight smile on Eli's face.

"Where did you learn that?" he asked. Shen was still laughing.

"The same one who taught you how to fight?"

"No. Different ones. We used to use them as pranks. Originally one was supposed to be itching powder and the other sneezing powder but one day we got the measurements wrong and ended up in a lot of trouble afterwards. The measurements for the ones I made today, well yesterday, were very wrong. That is why the effects were so quick and strong."

"You really fight dirty."

"I am almost always at a disadvantage. I need tricks to help level the playing field."

"I didn't say it was a bad thing."

She handed him the sword. "Thank you for lending it to me," she said.

He nodded. "I'll get you some clothes to change into. You're covered in blood. You can't help Gordon cook like that."

Hailie looked down at her clothes. She hadn't realised it. Too many things were happening at once. She couldn't concentrate on everything at the same time. She still felt nauseous.

Eli came back in a few minutes and handed her the clothes, a simple t-shirt and shorts. It looked like something Lilly would wear.

She arched an eyebrow. "Yellow?" she asked holding up the t-shirt. She didn't even like yellow. The shorts was navy blue.

He grinned. "There are plenty people on the ship now. It would be hard to find you. At least now you'd stick out like a whale in a bucket."

Hailie was torn between wanting to laugh and wanting to throw something at his head.

"A whale in a bucket?" Shen said.

"Yes. It was something Hailie said when I bought her the yellow shirt she had been wearing before."

Shen shook his head still chuckling. "I'm definitely telling Celeste this when she wakes up."

"Could I please get some privacy to change?" Hailie said.

"Right. I need to go back up there before something breaks. Shen, I might have to put some of them to work with you in your workshop."

"No. Not a chance. Don't even think about it! I don't work with people," Shen said, crossing his arms.
