"Ouch!" Terrance cursed to herself as she scraped the back of her hand against a branch

She climbed and climbed, it seemed like the tree would never end. This had to be the tallest tree she'd ever climbed

"Almost there little one" the thick voice reassured

She reached up and pulled herself into the top branch, there was a break in the leaves so she could see above them.

There sat the dragon

She couldn't help but let her mouth open a bit in awe of his size

"I thought we could meet face to face" he said out loud, his voice was even more majestic out loud.

"Jed, if I may, it's nice to meet you" she said as eloquently as she could

"I've never had a nickname."

"Jed, jedsters, jeddy, jederoni, there's more but I could make several up for you" she smiled

She watched his mouth curl into a slight smile. His smile had the mystery of a smirk. His lips were about the size of her arm.

"I've never given one either. I'll call you terra or terr." He said

"Sounds good to me, so, you never did tell me what your name means"

"Well, my mother made it up. She didn't name me a name of meaning as tradition, she said she felt like I was meant for greatness and didn't want me to be defined by my name."

"That's beautiful"

He nodded

She felt like she was talking to a friend she'd known for years, she was just comfortable in his presents

"So how'd you find me?" She asked

"Well I'm not just following so it's how I keep finding you"

Her brows twisted in thought, she hadn't thought of that

"The stone. The moment the elves first handed it to you, when it touched your hand I felt it. I followed the feeling and it lead me to you. I go home after I watch you and find you again. I tried to ignore it but it just pulls me to you"

She smiled, "I'm glad it does, so does this mean we're.. I don't what you call it"

He stiffened and his right nostril twitched

"I'm not ready for commitment like that"

She couldn't help it, that struck her as funny and she started laughing before she knew she was

He seemed to loosen up a bit

"What?" He asked

"I'm sorry, it's just, that sounded like if we were dating or engaged. But I understand, take your time, no rush" she sighed smiling warmly

He responded with a grin

"Well alright then terr, you have a good night" he began spreading his wings

The magic of his smooth black scales, their beauty was captivating

"To you as well"

She watched as his wings began beating the wind and thruster him up. With each flap a gust of wind blew through her. She expected his take off to be noisy but it wasn't. It simply sounded like the wind.

She began climbing down the tree to return to her hut. She would sleep great tonight
