Chapter Seven

"Alexei!" Jewel screamed as the car crashed into the cliff. She hurriedly run towards the edge. Her heart thundered into her chest as she caught sight of the burning car. She quickly went down the dirt road and looked for him.

She glanced at the driver seat. It was difficult to see him because of the smoke. She opened the door but it was locked.

"Alexei!!" She knocked on the window. "Alexei! Are you there? Wake up!"

She tried to calm down and think of a plan to help him escape before the car explodes. She picked up a rough stone and slammed it hard to the window. Smoke escaped through the window. She immediately opened the door and searched for Alexei.

She noticed that he wasn't moving. Panic settled in the pit of her stomach. She shook it off and pulled him out of the car. It was difficult for her to carry him due to his weight. But she somehow managed to bring him at least a few feet away.

A loud explosion echoed and she covered his body with hers. As soon as the coast was clear, she checked his breathing and pulse. She was relieved when she felt his stable pulse against her hand. His breathing were also normal. She prayed that he was in harm's away. She hoped that he wouldn't develop any illness because of inhaling too much smoke.

"Alexei... Please wake up." She whispered. Then she remembered the men who were following them. She quickly carried him away. They needed to escape and let their enemies think that they were inside the vehicle when it exploded.

She spotted a small cavern. She placed him as comfortable as possible inside.

"Alexei..." She touched his face softly. She searched for any wounds and burns. Luckily, there weren't any.

She took a deep breath. Tears formed into her eyes. She took a deep breath and exhaled. She repeated it again and again until her breathing became even.

This wasn't the time to have a panic attack.

She wiped the tears in her eyes. She noted the soft groan coming from him. She quickly assessed his condition.

"Alexei! Can you hear me?" She gently tapped his shoulder.

He groaned out loud. She quickly let go of his shoulders.

"Sorry." She examined his face and noticed that gray eyes were staring at her worry. "You scared me to death! How are you feeling?"

"I never thought you'd be the one to guide me to heaven, moy angel." She quickly knocked his shoulders strongly. He groaned at the pain.

    "That wasn't funny."

A small grin formed in his face. He raised his hand and cupped her face. "Bad weeds don't die easily, moy milaya. Don't worry about me, I've been in worst conditions."

He slowly sat up. She quickly assisted him and frowned. "You shouldn't try to move. You might have broken some bones."

"It'll take more than broken bones to kill me. Now..." He gestured her closer. "Kiss me, moy angel."

Jewel's face heated. She didn't know if it was because of embarrassment or outrage due to his request. She mentally shook her head and believed it was more of a command coming from him.
