La'Reese POV

" How you liking it over here so far ?" My mother asked. We were sitting in my living room talking.

"I mean it's okay area wise for what I could afford. And the apartment it self is not bad all at for a income based apartment. I'm just happy I have a car so I wouldn't have to deal with all these little hood rats around here on the bus."

"I don't even know why you felt you had to move out. You could've stayed home with me until you were done with school." She said rolling her eyes.

"We've been over this mom. I just feel as though I needed this type of responsibility. Plus I love the feel of being in my own space. "

" It does look nice in here but I swear La'Reese the first time anything goes wrong your coming back home. I don't care how old you are. "

"Okay."

" Your dad being over here yet ?"

"Nope. You know how he gets when something doesn't go his way and I don't have time for his attitude."

"What is he mad for now ?"

"He didn't want me to move over here either. Talking about he'll help me pay my rent if I find a better place. I told him no because then he'll feel entitled to tell me what to do in my place. And you know if I disagree he'll just keep reminding me that he pays half my rent."

"Your father has always been that way."

"Yeah I know and that's why I don't ask him for anything. I rather struggle then to give him the satisfaction of thinking I need him. When in fact I don't ."

" Y'all got to do better ." She said shaking her head in a disappointed manor.

"That be him mom and you know it ." I said getting irritated with her because we have this conversation all the time.

See my dad and I have a difficult relationship. I love him dearly but he's very wishy washing. It's been times were we didn't speak for months to a year because he has a 'I can say and do whatever I please' motto. 

He thinks it's okay because he's the parent and never wants to apologize. He's literally like that with all his kids. In total I have nine siblings ranging from 27 to 7 in age just from his side alone. (Real life my mother has 9 kids 😩😒)

And that's exactly where he had me fucked up at because unlike the others I have a ' I don't give a fuck who you are' attitude. Like dad or not he not about to play with me. Especially when he wasn't there like I needed him to be. So my mother needs to miss me with the bs.

" I was with the man 6 years on and off before I even had you so trust me when I say I know the man like the back of my hand but I also know my child. Y'all just alike. Stubborn and hardheaded. "

"I'm serious La'Reese. I've never even seen you talk to a boy let alone have a boyfriend and I believe it all boils down to the relationship you have with your dad. "

" Actually it doesn't have anything to do with him. It has everything to do with the boys in my generation not being ready and able to handle a woman like me. "

"What's a woman like you ?"

" I am a beautiful independent, loving, trustworthy, committed, woman who so happens to expect the same in return which nowadays none of these little boys can give me. "

"We'll go head with your bad self." She said smirking.

"And for your information I am talking to someone." I snapped my fingers in a z formation while rolling my neck.

I was walking to meet up with Tayon when I got a notification. I pulled my phone out to see it was a text from Reese.

La'Reese 😜🔥: Milk🍫

Me: Why your ass keep calling me that ? 😒

La'Reese 😜🔥 : B/c that's your new nickname. But what your chocolate ass doing ? I'm bored 😩

Me: Just getting off work about to go shoot some hoops.

La'Reese 😜🔥: Really 😁 Where ? I'll come through for a second before I head to work. I'm trying to get out this house now.

Me: Nah ma not this time. We got a bet going on and I don't need your fine ass distracting me from the paper.

La'Reese 😜🔥: You just don't want me to see you get your ass handed to you in basketball. It's okay milk chocolate, there's no need to be embarrassed. We all can't be great on the court 💀😂😂😂

Me: 😒 Could never be embarrassed. Ya boy is definitely a beast on the court but I promise I got you next game.

La'Reese 😜🔥: Don't try to gas me up.

Me: Nah for real, I got you next time.

La'Reese 😜🔥: I'm holding you to your word. I don't like liars !

"You all in your phone who pussy got you whipped." I looked up to see Tayon ass grinning at me.

"Bruh chill."

" Sike nah but who your cheesy ass texting ?"

" La'Reese ."

"What's going on with you and shawty ? Y'all seem to be getting close." He asked as we walked into the gym. Since it was a Friday and school just let out so we decided instead of going home we'd shoot some hoops.

" We just kickin it right now. Still getting to know each other. Nothing too deep cause she said she not really looking for a dude right now. Plus I know once she find out how old I really am she's going to lean on my little shit. So I'm doing me."

" Man I don't think it's that serious. You ain't that young ."

"But you'll be 17 in four months."
He shrugged his shoulders like it wasn't a big deal.

"Even still she might not want to fuck with me off the strength that I've been lying from the beginning."

"Well like you said y'all just cooling it right now so keep it that way. If and when you plan on getting serious with her tell her the truth or not. It's up to you. Just make sure you can keep up with all your lies ."
