We had been kissing and kissing, his hands gentle and so were his lips. I loved this side to myself, it felt so special because it was really my first, and I knew I was his first girlfriend.
I was resting on his upper arm, just looking at him now. He smiled after we finished kissing; he moved his lips and kissed my nose gently.
“I’ll be right back okay? I’ll bring you home in a little while?”
“Where are you going?”
“I’ll be right back,” he smiled reassuringly, and left.
I rolled over in his bed, hearing the door to his house open and close. I nuzzled into his sheets, inhaling. I was curious about what this new field trip would bring, but I was ready for it. I was ready for him to get his answers. He deserved them.
I was in his room for a very long time, flipping through channels on the TV. There was nothing on, and I was wondering what he was doing. I wondered through the house, and found myself outside, the garage light was on. I quietly peered in, seeing Harry around a pile of opened boxes. He was wearing a proper dress shirt, not all the way buttoned. He had his eyes shut, holding onto something.
“Are you okay?” I whispered.
His eyes came open, he stared at me. “What time is it, I’m sorry,” he got up and went to shake out of the shirt. I shook my head and came over, running my hands over the soft fabric.
“This was his?” he nodded. “It’s big on you,’ I rolled up the cuffs. I looked into his hands, seeing a framed photo of the two of them together. “I thought you never went in his room, you packed up his stuff?”
He shook his head. “I gutted the house when I was thirteen. I moved out the couches, the pictures, the lamps, the random shit he left all over. I couldn’t stomach it. The garage was his space, he had everything in here, it was a second house.”
“Oh,” he nodded; I ran my hands over his chest.
“Sorry,’ he shook his head and took off his shirt, tossing it over the back of a box. He put the photo in the box, which was full of other trinkets.
“Don’t apologize for missing him.” He didn’t reply. “Harry don’t box me out.”
“I don’t have anything to say, honestly. I just lost track of time sitting out here. You should get home, if you want your parents to let you come with me we have to be on their good side by coming home before your curfew.”
I walked over and held his hand, looking into his eyes. “We’re going to figure this all out.”
“I hope so.” He said quietly. "I keep reliving things... It still hurts Fin."
"I can't imagine how much." I wrapped him in my arms and he pinned his body to mine.
"Can.. can you stay a bit longer? I don't feel like being by myself right now."
"Of course I'll stay."
He got a bit stiff, I think he was trying to be brave for me. We walked out and back to his room. I laid on my side, mirroring him. I played with his necklace gently, my body engulfed in his warmth. I was resting on his upper arm, his hand on my hip as he stared at me.
"What was it like... being all alone for the past few years?"
"I've been alone since he died." he answered back just as quiet. "My aunt wasn't all that active in my life. It's weird. It's weird to be an orphan, basically. My mom has been dead to me since I can remember."
"Do you hate living here all by yourself?"
'At times, I've liked being alone for the most part. No one can fuck you over or blow you off, I just had to worry about me."
"Well... what about now?"
He had a faint smile and played with my hair, sliding his hand up my body into my hair. "It's kind of nice to have you to think about."
"Yeah?" He nodded. "I'm glad, I like having you to think about too."
He had another smile and he kissed me, his hand moving down to my hips. I moved closer, his big legs draping over mine. One of my hands was gripping his shirt collar and the other was tucked a bit under his shirt by his waist, feeling his soft, warm skin. He somehow got on top of me, the kissing was heavier, more intense. God, I was in the worst place for this to be happening, his big cozy bed. My hand was creeping up higher on his body, nearly taking his shirt off when my phone rang. We both jumped and caught our breath, I scrambled to get it from my pocket.
"Hey Fin, where are you? I thought you'd be back by now from Harry's."
"Oh sorry we... we p-put a movie in kind of late. I'll be right there.'
"All right see you soon,"
I hung up and took a breath, still caged in his body. I gave him a nervous glance. "D-Do you mind not getting the physical right now?"
"Of course I don't. Why would you ask?"
"You have experience."
"So?" he shook his head. "Finley, never worry about that, all right? This was... this was better than anything okay?" he kissed my forehead and got out of bed. 'Let me take you home?"
I nodded and followed him out of the house. He was walking to his side of the truck to drive when I caught his waist and hugged him as tight as I could. He held me right back, not even questioning it. So much was running through my mind. I loved that he was a gentlemen about sex, and then I kept thinking about what he was going through inside. I couldn’t imagine what it was like to not have parents, to not have a mom or a dad. He had been alone for so long, and that broke my heart.
“I’ll see you tomorrow.” He leaned over and kissed me gently as we sat in my driveway in his truck.
“I’ll see you,” I pecked his lips again and hopped out, walking inside.
“Hey Finny,” my dad and mom shouted, standing in the kitchen together. They opened their mouth to talk but I just jumped into their arms, one wrapped around each of them. “You okay?” my dad was confused.
“I’m just really lucky to have you guys, that’s all. Thank you for being my parents.”
“Any time,” my mom laughed, kissing the side of my head. I took a breath, and went up to my room, knowing that I was luckier than I ever imagined. Seeing Harry alone in a garage full of memories of a man he never truly got to know all of broke me, and taught me an incredible lesson that should have been learned so long ago.
