Lauren and I had just finished video-chatting with the fans. We usually do it for a few hours but we had to cut it short today, only because we had to get ready for the party the guys were throwing. Slim had told Lauren they had rented out a private loft over looking the city skyline; he said the view was breath-taking. I couldn't wait to see it for myself, to be honest.
I had chosen to wear something more natural and on the comfortable side for tonight; I had picked out a nude bodysuit that hugged my curves and some cut-off denim shorts. Lauren had convinced me to leave my hair down and natural, which was a pain 97% of the time; she convinced me with a few bags of Doritos and a trip to Taco Bell if we ended up getting bored later. She also promised that I could raincheck the trip to Taco Bell in case anything were to come up, which made me happy. She knows me too well.
I glanced at the clock on the opposite wall. "Hey, are you almost ready?" I shouted over the TV. I don't remember turning it on; it was on the channel within the MTV family that continuously played music videos. I wasn't necessarily complaining; they were playing good shit - Kanye West, Kevin Gates, and even some Drake and Future.
"Yeah, ten more minutes!" I heard LP yell over the music. I sighed, leaning back on the bed against the headboard. I began to rummage through our junk food drawer when she appeared in black leggings and an oversized Nike crew sweatshirt; it must have been Slim's because I had never laid eyes on it before.
"You look great," I complimented her. "Slim's?"
She nodded, smiling. "I couldn't resist myself."
I rolled my eyes, playfully. "Yeah, I bet. Did you call an Uber yet?"
She began to shake her head. "No, actually, Slim said he'd pick us up. He's on his way; he should be here soon."
My eyebrows shot up, surprised. "I didn't realize that was the plan," I said slowly.
Lauren shrugged, grabbing her infamous Chanel bag from the bed. "I didn't think it'd be a big deal." She eyed me for a moment, studying my body language. "If you want, I can call an Uber instead..." she offered.
I began to shake my head. "No, it's not a problem!" I defended. "You just didn't tell me."
A little over ten minutes later, Lauren's phone began to buzz. Just as I was snacking on some Doritos. I sighed, putting them away as Lauren got up from the bed and swinging her bag across her body. "Ready?" she asked. I nodded, grabbing my belongings and followed her out the door.
The car ride to the mysterious location wasn't all that bad. Slim talked mostly; the subject ranged from producing music to Kells' new album and then to the upcoming tour. I could see from the backseat as LP began to stiffen when talk of tour came about.
Her and I had talked about it briefly; I had brought up a hypothetical situation to her because I had known there was talk of an upcoming tour after the album dropped. At the time, she seemed confident in her answer; her and Slim would do long-distance and see each other whenever they crossed paths in states or had days or holidays off. But I could tell now, as Slim talked about it as he drove, she could see how excited he began to get. And Lauren wasn't stupid - she knew exactly what went on behind closed doors on a rapper's tour. Sex, drugs and partying. I knew Lauren like the back of my hand and I could tell, right now, her ideal dream was diminishing right in front of her.
I knew she'd want to talk eventually, but most likely in the privacy of our own hotel room, so I decided not the bring anything up when we arrived at the location. Slim parked the SUV on the curb, grinning as he unbuckled his seat belt. "Ya'll ready to rage?" he asked.
Lauren scoffed playfully as she got out of the vehicle. Just as I was about to do the same, Slim's voice stopped me. I glanced over at him, eyebrows raised. "Is she okay?" he asked, gesturing towards Lauren. She stood outside, looking around her, patiently waiting for us.
