The party was in full swing by the time I arrived with my best friend in tow. She went ahead to greet the kids from her school she knew whilst I explored the mansion, finally finding myself in a relatively small ballroom where there were drinks on every surface visible.
As I poured Kaya an alcoholic drink to kick things off with, I overheard a very attractive couple almost yelling at each other by the balcony. I paused to listen, my curiosity overruling any sense telling me that I should leave them alone.
"How many people are in this relationship? I thought there were only supposed to be two!" the girl yelled, she stood at least eight inches shorter than the guy, even in her high heels, he almost towered over her petite frame.
The guy stared at her as if she'd lost her mind which only piqued my interest further, "Last time I checked my relationship status on Facebook was only to you. You have my ring on your thumb and you still think I'd go after another girl."
"I can't believe you won't even admit it! I caught you whispering in her ear and you expect me to believe that it was innocent?"
"Yes Izzy! I did nothing wrong and you're accusing me of cheating like you always do. You're the only one I want to be with."
I sniggered before I could prevent it, having heard this line so many times and to my amusement the girl wasn't impressed either. Unfortunately there were only a couple of other people in the room and the music wasn't loud enough to muffle my amusement.
The guy turned to give me a dirty look with his dark brown eyes and a scowl before turning his attention back to his girlfriend.
"Please Alex, how many girls have worn this ring? I'm surprised it hasn't rusted yet." She huffed, tilting her head to the side as she waited for his reply.
Her shiny naturally scarlet hair tumbled down her slender shoulders in beautiful waves I had never been able to achieve on my own shoulder length mahogany, wild curly hair.
I had to say that I developed an instant fondness for her comebacks. Guys like him obviously thought that they were hot so they could get any girl they wanted, so were probably not used to confrontation.
"I don't give it to just anyone Izzy."
"Well aren't I just a lucky girl? Wearing Alex Michaelson's ring to show the girls that he's mine yet he encourages them anyway!"
Another laugh escaped my mouth, this time much louder and even surprising myself as I managed to splash my hand with the mojito I'd poured into two glasses due to the sudden movement.
This time Alex shouted at me from across the room, watching with irritation, "Got something to say?"
I shook my head, finding it difficult to keep another laugh back as I cleaned up the sticky liquid with a napkin. My shoulders however gave me away.
Digging my fingernails into my leg, I forced myself to speak clearly, "Nope, just remembering a joke I heard earlier."
Izzy barely gave me a glance, instead she stared accusingly at her boyfriend, "Even now you still can't give me your full attention Alex!"
His mouth fell open as he forgot about me, instead attempting to initiate damage control for this tiny but feisty female in front of him, "How can I concentrate when she keeps laughing at everything I say?"
